It all depends on DeCastro.
1. If DeCastro is available at 17, you don't hesitate, you draft him. Guard is our biggest need. With your second pick you have to take the best available CORNER BACK. That is our 2nd biggest need. You have tremendous value at 21 for a CB. Dennard, Jenkins, Minnifield, and even Kirkpatrick could be available. Your second round pick is a no brainer. Take the best available RUNNING BACK. Again, tremendous value there. Polk, Wilson, Martin should all be available and should all be great starting backs in the NFL.
2. If DeCastro isn't avaialable, then you draft best available CORNER BACK with your first pick and Lamar Miller with your second pick. The thinking here is that there isn't any other guard that has value in the 1st round. With your third pick you take any second tier guard which should be solid starters in the NFL. Glenn, Osemele, Zeitler.
Any of these two scenarios will be great value AND need picks. We should be ok with any of these two. That's as easy as it should get for our first 3 picks of the draft.

I agree about DeCastro, but no way he falls to pick 1a.
If he is gone, just thinking of RB’s available and value picks….what teams ahead of us need a RB?
1 Indy – YES, but they got bigger holes (QB)
2 St Louis – NO, unless they think Steven Jackson is past his prime
3 Min – NO, they’ve got Peterson
4 Cle – YES, but with Hillis & Hardesty already, may look to QB
5 TB – MAYBE, Blount has been a nice surprise for them
6 Was – MAYBE, but just signed Hightower and drafted Helu, and Royster did well
7 J’ville – NO, they have MJD unless they want a replacement, but that’s a high pick for a backup RB
8 Miami – NO, they already have R Bush & just drafted D Thomas
9 Car – NO, they already have 3 of them in DeAngelo, Stewart & Cam
10 Buf – NO, Lynch is solid, and they just drafted Spiller
11 KC – NO, J Charles is solid, and they just drafted McCluster
12 Sea – NO, Lynch has emerged as a stud
13 Ariz – NO, they have Beanie and just drafted Ryan Williams
14 Dal – NO, they have Felix Jones + DeMarco
15 Philly – NO, they have McCoy
16 NYJ – YES, Greene isn’t that good and LT isn’t getting any younger
17 Cincy -
So after that initial Rams, Browns, Buccs, Redskins cluster, nobody needs a RB until maybe the Jets at 16. So I think Richardson falls. I hope DeCastro falls, but with the last few drafts, interior o-line like Pouncy, Iupati, etc… are going earlier and earlier.
Richardson falling is a pipe dream
Any of those teams except Indy, cuz they need Luck, will be at least thinking about drafting Richardson.
Specifically: Cleveland, Tampa Bay, Washington, Miami, Buffalo, Kansas City, Seattle, Jets.
Second, any higher team can trade up to get him in a heart beat. Richardson is a much sexier pick than DeCastro, and in today’s market, sexy wins.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
Buffalo, TB, Washington, Chiefs, and Miami don't need running backs
Only Cleveland, Seattle, and Jets might need Richardson.
Paul Brown Stadium, where everyone's hopes go to die.
They don't have Richardson-caliber running backs, doesn't mean they wouldn't want one.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
Decastro
pick 1# Decastro
Pick 2# Lamar miller
Do you know what a super man Ass Whooping is ?... Its the type of Ass Whooping you wish you could Fly away from !....
Buffalo already has a successful running attack with Fred Jax & CJ. I can’t imagine trying to squeeze another horse into that stable.
Maimi just signed Reggie Bush, and drafted Daniel Thomas. Trent is an upgrade, but they have too many holes to take yet another RB.
KC still has Jamal Charles, who was an insane ypc beast the last couple of years.
Seattle has Lynch, who emerged in the 2nd half of this year into a type of RB that people think Trent will likely be. Why draft what you already have, when you have a lot of other holes?
Lynch I believe is a FA
But I think you’re right about the other three teams. Probably not a snowballs chance in H E Double hockey sticks of them drafting a RB in the first (especially Buffalo as CJ was a stud the second half of the year in place of Fred Jackson) however I have to agree with Jimbassa on this one. Richardson is very unlikely to fall to us. We might snag miller though, which would be 1a in my opinion.
KC
KC needs a replacement for Thomas Jones. Charles is a question mark due to his knee, and I think KC wants to platoon Charles anyway.
They may have a bigger need, but the value to pick RIchardson is there.
It must be inordinately taxing to be such a boob. ~ The Brain
Maybe the Vikes since AP tore his ACL and MCL in the same knee.
Paul Brown Stadium, where everyone's hopes go to die.
Jackson has a broken fibula and Spiller is more of a 3rd down back.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
Buffalo already spent a top 10 pick on Spiller.
How many top 10 picked RB’s do they need to backup Fred Jackson?
word
and as I said above, Spiller was a stud the second half of the year in place of Fred Jackson. They won’t waste a pick on a RB
I'm not saying Buffalo is the front runner to snatch him...
but is it impossible? I don’t think so.
Same train of thought as Bengal fans wanting another stud WR in the 1st.
What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.
I'm tempted to say that DeCastro is more of a Pipe dream than Richardson is.
Seattle is the most likely to pick him up since Lynch is a Free Agent. There’s almost no chance Buffalo spends their pick on Richardson since they already have big money locked up in Spiller.
On the other hand, almost every team in the league could upgrade at least one of their guard spots and will be pretty tempted by a guy like DeCastro.
Still, I don’t think it’s likely that either guy falls to the Bengals. They are both top-15 talents.

Players falling
While it may be a pipedream it must also be considered.
If DeCastro is there we must take him.
If DeCastro is gone, and Richardson is there we must take him.
Then we should go best available corner.
At 21, if we already went corner, I think we should consider Konz and Barron along with Miller. I don’t see a lot of seperation between Miller and Polk, where Barron is far better than the next safety.
The problem is if we take a Corner and Barron, we have to go guard in the second, then we have to find a running back later.
It must be inordinately taxing to be such a boob. ~ The Brain
I agree it all depends on DeCastro
He is my first option bar none and then I agree take a CB with #21 pick. I know, I’m in the minority but I’m not sold on either Lamr Miller or Mark Barron in round 1. Richardon is the ONLY back I think is worthy of taking in round 1 but that’s just my opinion and yes I know Miller is FAST, and has good size but I do not think he is great runner between the tackles, again that’s just my opinion. As for Barron, he is pretty good as well but it has been stated many times his weakness is pass coverage. We already have two SS’s on our roster who are great against the run but struggle in pass coverage and I just think it would be crazy to add another one to the mix, especially with a first round pick.
My best scenerios
- option
DeCastro
Richardson
- CB left
- Option
DeCastro
Dennard or best CB available
Martin or best RB available
it was suppose to be
Option 1
DeCastro
Richardson
Best CB availbale
Option 2
DeCastro
Dennard or best CB available
Martin or best RB available
the question is
after Decastro, are any of the other Guards significantly ahead of the pack? Is Cordy Glenn that much better of a prospect than Kevin Zeitler, Kelechi Osemele? From what I hear, DeCastro is a rare talent, so the likelyhood of him sticking around to 17 might be slim… It just all depends on who drops to us. Hopefully there won’t be too much of a run on CBs & Guards in this years draft.
From what I've read picking a G other than DeCastro at 17/21 would be a reach....
I think even for Glenn. Normally Guards don’t ever go in the first, so shows what type of talent DeCastro is. In the 2nd at least a couple of these guys will still be around.

Are you counting centers in that?
In the last few years at least, we’ve seen one or two G/C go every year. I wouldn’t mind them picking up Osemele or Glenn with the 21st pick if DeCastro is indeed gone.

Konz is rated as another possible first rounder.......
plus he plays both G/C, which the Bengals usually like versatile guys. Glenn is projected as possible first (overrated in my opinion) and Osesmele is a projected 2nd round pick.

Selecting a guard in the first round
I’ve seen a number of websites that show 2-4 guards getting selected in the first round (David DeCastro, Cordy Glenn, Kevin Zeitler, Kelechi Osemele). Each draft is different so you can’t discount this from happening only because it hadn’t happened yet – but the scenario is still unlikely no matter how much the OG position has become en vogue in media outlets. First, only the left guard position requires the better athlete and technician (in most systems). Of the guys listed below from the 2004-2010 drafts, 40% are not left guards on their team (Joseph, Snee, Lutui*, Chester). Note: Lutui actually takes up two positions but both are on the bench.
Mike Iupati – Idaho (San Francisco 2010 17th overall)
Davin Joseph – Oklahoma (Tampa Bay 2006 23rd overall)
Ben Grubbs – Auburn (Baltimore 2007 29th overall)
Logan Mankins – Fresno State (New England 2005 32nd overall)
Chris Snee – Boston College (NY Giants 2004 34th overall – 2nd round)
Justin Blalock – Texas (Atlanta 2007 39th overall – 2nd round)
Taitusi Lutui – USC (Arizona 2006 41st overall – 2nd round)
Zane Beadles – Utah (Denver 2010 45th overall – 2nd round)
Andy Levitre – Oregon State (Buffalo 2009 51st overall – 2nd round)
Chris Chester – Oklahoma (Baltimore 2006 56th overall – 2nd round)
The one benefit of picking a guard early is that this success rate has been pretty high. Only Lutui has been a bust. The other guys are quality starters at a minimum. Therefore, would the Bengals be wise in selecting a guard at pick #21? Probably, especially given how poorly the play at that position was last year. That said, it better be a special player since we’ve already gone outside the traditional draft slotting for an offensive lineman with the pick of Andre Smith (right tackles just aren’t picked that high). DeCastro is the guard generating the most buzz but he played right guard at Stanford, however he absolutely excels at pulling which is normally reserved for the left guard position.
If you take DeCastro
You play him at his natural RG position, not LG. LG should be battled out between Boling (his natural position is LG) and a free agent.
Paul Brown Stadium, where everyone's hopes go to die.
I still like Lamar Miller and the more vid I see of him the more I like him
I could see drafting Richardson ahead of him but I don’t see Miller as any real drop off and Ii think he will fit our system. I woudf go for the BPA at G, S, CB or RB. Decastro and Miller would be a very good 1st round for me but if a S or CB who is a playmaker like Jenkins I would be okay with it.

If Richardson doesn't drop, I like Doug Martin in the 2nd round
Good read. If DeCastro falls to 17 and the Bengals then grab a corner (Kirkpatrick, Dennard, or Jenkins) at 21 and Martin in the 2nd round….if all of that happens, I’d say that might very well be the best turnout we can ask for. Martin actually weighed in at 5’9" 219lbs (that’s Jones Drew-esque)…but faster.
Still, all that being said…if Richardson does by chance fall to 17 I can’t see not taking him.
Jones-Drew measured 5066 / 207 at the 2006 combine
Plus he ran a 4.39-40yd dash. We’ll see what Martin can do but I still don’t see the comparison. Jones-Drew was just a beast in college and carried the same play into the NFL. Martin reminds me a bit more of Ray Rice (5080 / 199). Rice ran a 4.42 and was an all-around solid player in college. Obviously I’d be happy if we picked Martin and he turned into either of these guys!

I'm all for Martin, he's my favorite 2nd tier running back in this draft.

This is from a men's health magazine an article that was written before the season ranking the top 10 strongest clooege football players
7) Doug Martin
RB, Boise State Broncos
5’9, 201 lbs.
Senior
They say big things come in small packages. Doug Martin is a prime example of that. The 5’9 Martin, known by his teammates as the "Muscle Hamster", possesses the most impressive stats in the Boise State program with a 530-pound squat, 405-pound bench press, a 374-pound hang clean, and a 40 yard dash of 4.42 seconds. He also vertical jumps 37 inches and did 28 reps on the 225-pound bench press. With Kellen Moore getting all the attention this year, Martin should certainly not be overlooked, looking to improve on his previous all-star season of 1,260 yards and 12 TDs.
"muscle hamster"
lol they could have said might mouse or something… muscle hamster kinda sounds non-threatening
AMAS
Muscle Hamster was a nickname given to him by his teammates
it refers to his compact and stocky build

Just think about last year
No QB, an old depressing Ocho, and JJ getting ready to bolt
The holes aren’t as big this year – and a lot easier to see them filled thru the FA/Draft
Just hope Mike Brown doesn’t screw it up
