Give the Patriots back there draft pick (the 5th rounder from Chad)

Assuming DeCastro, Richardon, and Kirkpatric are all off the board when we pick at #17, I say we make a deal with the Pats (who love to accumulate draft picks). We trade down and give them our #17 pick (1rst rounder), our #53 pick (2nd rounder) and also the 5th round pick that they gave to us to acquire Chad Johnson last year. In return, we will get there #27 pick and there 31rst pick, both are at the end of the first round.

The reason I'd not only be willing to trade down with Pats, but also give up an additional draft pick in order to do so are:

1. We actually have the additional picks to be able to do it, and more than likely one or two of our later round picks will not make the final roster cuts.

2. We have 3 glaring wholes (Guard, RB, & CB) and I feel we would easily be able to address all of our major needs with 3 picks (late) in the first round. This should help ensure we do not miss out on the players we are really targetting before one of the other teams who drafts early in 2nd round (with the same needs) can jump on these players.

3. Having 3 first round picks gives us way better odds that the players we targeted will be able to contribute right away.

My picks would be

Round 1

#21 - Stephon Gilmore CB

#27 - Doug Martin RB

#31- Kelechi Osemelle/Cordy Glenn Guard

Round 2

Traded to Pats

Round 3 - 7 - best players available

I really do like this idea...

But who could Belichick possibly want to move up and get only one first round pick as a result…nobody I’m sure…especially as SB champs

i don’t know about that..their defense sucks. I am sure there’s a reason for that.

The more we consolidate the lower picks the better.

Our team is so young that quality is more important than quantity right now.

Hopefully we are active in free agency and making some draft deals.

Would love it, but...........

is a team going to trade up 4 spots and give up 2 first rounders for what we’d be offering in return? Maybe Oakland would do it, but doubt New England would. Would like to see the calculation on what would be considered fair compensation for that move.

Really

They are only giving up 1 first rounder (the 31rst or 32nd pick) and they are actually improving on the other first round pick by 10 spots (27 to 17). Normally a team has to pay to trade up in the first round and I’m just saying let’s be a little creative and essentially see if we can pay to trade down.

I think there's more value at the mid-late 2nd round than late 1st round.

What do you do when there's no way out? Find a way to get deeper in it.

I do like your G picks as they would be Gs converted from Ts in college

But both will be available IMO in the 2nd and maybe 3rd rounds

Only works if...

There is a guy New England really wants at 17. Since they tend to trade down or trade away for future picks, that is a big IF. I’m sure they would prefer to use 2 first rounders on defense. I would welcome the trade, though.

Yeah, I agree

That is why I think we would actually have to give something up (5th rounder) in order to have any chance at the trade, which is kind of backwards when you think about it because normally the teams trading up are the ones giving something up.

Glenn maybe, but agree........

all others definitely not in 1st.

Why trade for Ocho,He'll be free at the end of the season!

I really dont want a guy that cant crack that lineup of receiver’s anyways

wouldnt mind trading some lower round picks,to move up

Did you even read post??

It says absolutely nothing about trading for Chad!!!

by biggie22 on Jan 26, 2012 10:44 PM EST up reply actions

No i didnt,i even misread the topic

I still wouldnt trade for him……excuse me

After reading the post,i dont think the Pats try to move up,they have proved its not who you are as much as what you do!

Agreed

I know it’s Wishful thinking and after rereading I could see how it kind of looked like I was saying leys try to get Chad back but that’s definitely NOT the case:)

I love the idea of 3 1st rounders

My scenarios would be…

Peter Konz-OG
Brandon Thompson-DT
Chase Minnifield-CB

OR

Peter Konz-OG
Mark Barron-SS
Chase Minnifield-CB

I did a check on the draft value chart

and it looks like the Patriots would be getting the better value in this trade, so it it not far fetched. It looks like we would give the patriots 1320 points in value, and get back 1280 points in value. It would even be even without the 5th rounder included, because the 5th rounder is only valued at 31 points.
