First Round Picks and Doug Martin

Before I get to anything Doug Martin related, I'd just like to state my views on the draft:

First of all, I don't think trading up in the first round is a good idea of all. There is plenty of depth at our major needs that at least several of the players we are targeting should be available come the 2nd half of round one. That being said, of course everyone and their mother would love to see Richardson in stripes, and if he drops all the way to 17, I don't see anyway that we can pass on him. However with that being incredibly unlikely, here is what I feel should be the priorities list for the Bengals when we're on the clock at 17.

Richardson

Decastro

CB (Jenkins or Kirkpatrick, or if both are taken Denard)

Regardless of how the first 16 picks play out, I don't see any way that all of these players are gone, and so we can use our first pick effectively.

Now assuming every other team doesn't forget that Richardson is still available doesn't pull the trigger on him, when we're on the clock at 21, it will be time to make a decision. CB is too much of a need, that if we end up with an offensive player at 17, I think we HAVE to take a CB at 21. I don't think that is debatable. But if we take one at 17, it would make a lot of sense to bolster our offense with #21. Assuming all aforementioned players are off the board, the vast majority of mock drafts I've seen have the Bengals taking either Cordy Glenn, or Lamar Miller with #21 (again, assuming that we took a CB at 17). I don't doubt Miller's talent, but the more coverage this year's RBs are getting, the less I like him, and the more I'm really liking Doug Martin. The problem, is that I'm not alone in this and a lot of other teams are feeling the same way. As Senior Bowl week came and went, it became clear to me that I would love nothing more to see Martin lined up behind Dalton every Sunday (and hopefully some Mondays) next season. The issue now becomes, is Martin really going to be available when we get to pick number 53 in the draft? Or is he someone we should start looking at with our 2nd first round pick? I know the answer to this will become a lot clearer after the combine and pro days, but what do you think, Cincy Jungle?
