i think the rams really need to get Bradford the weapons he needs.

They couldn't go wrong with Blackmon, but LT is the second most valuable position and Kalil is probably the most highly regarded one in the last decade.

And with Bradford coming back from an injury next year, they’re going to really need to protect his blindside to make him more comfortable.

Well, never mind on the injury part.

For some reason I thought it was more serious, but it’s a high ankle sprain. But still, I personally like Kalil here.

Seems like that would make this really complicated.

Agree, I would nix trades......otherwise this will get crazy quick.

not really

say if 5 people rec the trade suggested by luke in suggestion 3, I will update the draft board on the main post to show that a trade has been made and will update the board accordingly…

AMAS

by AMAS85 on Jan 6, 2012 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

nice thing about this being on our boards is

we can do whatever we want. Personally I think this trade is a lock, since Washington REALLY wants a QB, and Minnesota will probably get the same guy here as they would in slot 6… plus they get a bunch of other picks! No brainer for them to make this trade. Just rec however you think it will play out! Really probably not a ton of trades other than this one make lots and lots of sense, other than outside the top 20, which we aren’t doing here.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 12:56 PM EST up reply actions

Also don't forget

If they end up hiring Jay Gruden, he may try to take both Anthony Collins and Jerome Simson with him since they are both free agents. Collins is flat out a good player and might welcome the opportunity to start. Simpson is inconsistent as a #2 but Jay may like his athletic ability plus whenever he’s been the #1 option he’s palyed pretty both when AJ was out this year and at the end of last year. Just specualtion though.

I think Richardson is a good possibility on how they go since there are no good QBs here for this selection.

If not, they could grab a WR since they don’t have any either… if they did it would be Alshon Jeffrey and grab a QB in round 2. Richardson would be hard to pass on here, but we’ll have to see what they do with Lynch. If they resign Lynch I think they go Alshon Jeffrey… I’ll post it just for possibilities haha (seems like were the only ones here atm)

Jamaal Charles will be returning from an ACL tear..not sure if he’ll be the same player. Jackie Battle also ended the season on IR, but don’t think he was that good.

by OhWell on Jan 6, 2012 5:09 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think they are planning to replace Charles.

He is a REALLY good RB and they will surprise a lot of people next year with him being back I think.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 5:27 PM EST up reply actions

Luke Kuechly, LB

They couldn’t stop the run at all this year, and Jamal Charles will be back. Kuechly will be a tackling machine and help a lot against the run and he can cover well also. I don’t think they go for RB here… maybe with a later pick, but Charles is still pretty good and I think will be their feature back.

And don't forget we're still on the Cardinals!

Anyone have any other thoughts for that? All we have so far is Melvin Ingram! They could use Oline help maybe, but a pass rusher I think is what they will target in round 1 (no one likes first round guards haha)

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

I'll go with Jenkins on this one.

Jerry Jones doesn’t have to risk his job on choosing a risky prospect with 14th pick. If he’s trouble it’s not like Jerry is going to fire himself :)

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 6:09 PM EST up reply actions

Rated too low for this slot I think,

plus they need more interior line help than tackle. Plus they got tackle last year I think.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 6:05 PM EST up reply actions

They do need a..

..Guard. DeCastro is a possibility, but I don’t know if this is too high for a Guard

by OhWell on Jan 6, 2012 5:51 PM EST up reply actions

Mark Barron

Draft stock is rising and they definitely need help in the secondary. Barron is a playmaker who is all over the field. He’s oversized and is a ballhawk as well. When your secondary needs help/rebuilding (and the top 2 CBs are off the board) can’t do better than starting your draft with this pick.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

Rec'ing this pick,

but also still like Mark Barron. Whoever gets most recs fastest wins IMO! also Jenkins could get some love, but he is awfully risky for top 15 pick. Dennard or Barron I could see being the pick really easily here.

Dallas needs pash rushing or pass blocking, or a CB

They have the RB, QB, WR’s and TE’s.

So either the top CB, DE/OLB, or OT

Assuming Arizona does not take Richarson, Bengals trade with either Eagles or Cowboys

Neither team needs a RB, we trade Keith Rivers (they both could use LB help) and a 4th round pick to move up a couple of spots (we pit Philly & Dallas against each other since they are division rivals) and we jump ahead of the Jets to take Richardson.

I would think they'd go Linebacker here...

it’s a pretty big need for them, and Rex Ryan is defensive minded, so he will want a defensive play maker. Luke Kuechly or Courney Upshaw maybe?

With everything going around mark they might be looking at a qb. It sounds like he might not be there qb of the future like they though

by Masonr on Jan 6, 2012 6:01 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

But I would guess they would wait till round 2 if they are going for someone just to provide competition.

Round 1 QB is someone you are taking to start immediately, and I don’t think that happens. Plus there is no QB worth taking here I don’t think.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 6:03 PM EST up reply actions

they love De/olb combos

by joeb69 on Jan 6, 2012 5:49 PM EST up reply actions

Trent Richardson is also a possibility here,

but like I said below Rex Ryan is defensive minded, so he will want a defensive play maker. Courtney Upshaw just fits that perfectly- great pass rushing OLB and already has experience in 3-4 defense.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 6:40 PM EST up reply actions

Any one of them would be Great!!!

Hopefully one of them will fall to us. Just out of curiosity, if any of the guy you listed (Kirkpatric, Richardson, or DeCastro) fell to us who would we prefer most to fall in our laps

by biggie22 on Jan 6, 2012 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

You can't pass on Richardson if he falls this far.

You just can’t. I can’t imagine in a million years that all three of these guys would be here, but Richardson is a top 3 talent at a position of need. If Kirkpatrick is falling this far, that means there’s a very good chance Dennard would still be there for our next pick. At the very least it’s a choice between Richardson and DeCastro, but Richardson is by far the higher rated talent.

by eric nyc on Jan 6, 2012 6:10 PM EST up reply actions   2 recs

not so fast

we’re still on 14 Dallas, not enough recs yet

by joeb69 on Jan 6, 2012 6:16 PM EST up reply actions

The pick here is DeCastro.

This is a RB heavy draft, it would be a mistake to take Trent here, IMO.

by Cry on Jan 6, 2012 10:02 PM EST up reply actions

Gotta take the by far top running back prospect when there isn't a huge dropoff in guard talent

in the next few prospects. Cordy Glenn or Konz with next pick would be almost as good as DeCastro, Osemele or Zeitler in round 2 would also be about the same talent.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 10:46 PM EST up reply actions

But we need a DB with the next pick.

DeCastro is a top 10 guard in the league on day one. Trent is a question mark. Waiting for a second round guard like Osemele or Zeitler is a gamble. But that’s just my opinion.

by Cry on Jan 6, 2012 11:16 PM EST up reply actions

it was a community draft

don’t blame us…lol, do another one, sure the results will be different, lol

by joeb69 on Jan 6, 2012 11:26 PM EST up reply actions

No like I said, it's my opinion.

That shouldn’t override the community. I’m just offering my lone dissenting opinion as food for thought. I could be totally wrong and Trent is the next AP and DeCastro is a total bust. I love Trent as a prospect, I’m just a fan of hitting the home run. We have two first round picks in a very weak draft class so I’d really like for both to be elite at their position for years to come.

by Cry on Jan 6, 2012 11:34 PM EST up reply actions

I know brother

by joeb69 on Jan 7, 2012 1:22 AM EST up reply actions

I would have taken

David DeCastro, the three teams between us and the 21st team dont have a need at RB but they do at Oline so in all likely-hood Trent would make it to 21 and DeCastro wouldn’t say I say take the top Guard and then Grab trent at 21 or trade up to 18 if you scared he wont make it, hell moving 3 spots shouldn’t be to bad of a price.

by BobJones4980 on Jan 12, 2012 1:57 AM EST up reply actions

Defense

I feel they need help on defense more then anything but not sure who. Maybe Andre Branch but i dont know much about there d-line

by Masonr on Jan 6, 2012 6:40 PM EST up reply actions

I put Andre Branch below if you want that.

Definitely a good pick for them since they have no pass rush. Could see Any of the three we have thrown out there, but I think it will go defense.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 6:59 PM EST up reply actions

Unfortunately I think they go with DeCastro

I’d love for him to last till our next pick, but I think this is his spot.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Makes Sence

David DeCastro would be a great pick for them since there line is not that good and with a rb and qb coming back from injury they would want to protect them.

by Masonr on Jan 6, 2012 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

Gotta go with this.

They really have no WR to speak of and Johnny Knox just got annihilated. Makes good sense, though DeCastro could be a good pick too.

by Luke on Jan 6, 2012 7:25 PM EST reply actions

This whole thing has been a bit silly

We are not picking between Jenkins, DeCastro, and Trent Richardson at #17. That’s a silly pipe dream. If any one of those guys is there at 17 I’ll be amazed. We’ll probably do something like Dennardm Glenn/Barron depending on other factors. Maybe LaMarr Miller.

by eric nyc on Jan 7, 2012 1:51 AM EST reply actions

It's not silly... it's just how we mocked it.

Can you find any single team that is a completely absurd pick? Any team that 100% would take Richardson, another that would 100% take DeCastro, and another that would 100% take Jenkins before our pick? Honestly I think this mock could legit happen. It could go completely different. It’s just a mock and this is just one way I could see it going. You’ve got to remember that Jenkins has character issues, and that generally guards aren’t even taken in round 1. Also we’ve got to still see what happens in free agency… if Seattle resigns Marshawn Lynch, and Browns resign Hillis, etc etc then it can work out exactly like we mocked it. If they don’t resign those players, there is a good chance they take Richardson, but every team here I personally think we fill their biggest need if there is a good player worth the pick there. You see any pick that you completely disagree with?

by Luke on Jan 7, 2012 10:51 AM EST up reply actions

i don't think there's anything as "really high for a guard" anymore

RB’s used to get drafted really high, but now it’s a passing league, and teams are learning that RB’s are rather interchangable….and RB’s are getting drafted lower.

Whereas an offense is only as good as it’s QB and O-Line, and O-Linemen (even interior O-Linemen are geting drafted higher and higher).

Guys like M Pouncey, Iupati, E Wood, etc… are examples of interior O-Linemen getting drafted in the 15-30 range of round 1. It seems like the deays of stealing an Eric Steinbech at the beginning of round 2 are over.

by ephram on Jan 7, 2012 3:17 PM EST up reply actions

DeCastro is going to go in the top 15, if not the top 10

Richardson won’t get past the Jets – they can’t rely on LT and Rex Ryan wouldn’t pass up a monster RB like him. Jenkins is the only one who might still be there, but the idea of ALL THREE being there is wishful thinking. I could point to a handful of picks in this thing that seem a bit off, but the fact is it’s an overall fantasy that seemed to be geared towards making sure those guys were there for sake of conversation at 17.

by eric nyc on Jan 7, 2012 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

Also, the thing about DeCastro...

He’s rated as one of the best OG prospect to come into the league in maybe a decade. You could take him in the top 5 and it wouldn’t be THAT crazy. Any team could make an argument for drafting him at any spot. No one in the league is completely set at guard, except for the Saints and they’re probably going to lose Nicks. So ANY team that has any kind of offensive issue – pass blocking, run blocking, anything – could easily have DeCastro at the top of their draft board. So it’s hard to do a mock with him because it’s going to come down to which head coach values the guard position JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE than everyone else, and that’s a pretty hard thing to gauge.

by eric nyc on Jan 7, 2012 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Guards and RB's tend slip in drafts!!!!

RBs have too short of a shelf life. Guards, team tend to like to develop or (if they are athletic enough to make the transition) they move tackles to play Guard.
QB’s, tackles, CB’s, WR’s, DL and LB’s are all positions that USSUALLY have more weight in the draft than either Guard or RB. Last year 1rst guard taken was # 15 pick (Pouncy) first RB taken was # 28 pick (Ingram).

by biggie22 on Jan 7, 2012 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly right

That is how I can see those players falling pretty far. Luckily for us 2 of our biggest needs are positions that generally don’t go very high. Also you forgot to mention offensive tackle as a position that has a lot of weight.

Basically every position we mocked is a position that teams LIKE to take in the top 15, whereas Richardson and DeCastro slip in our mock because they are positions that aren’t usually taken till outside of the top 15 or 20, regardless of how good of a prospect they are. Richardson I could see being taken by a number of teams depending on how FA signings go, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him slip out of the top 15.

Adrian Peterson "slipped" in the draft...

To #7. I’m just saying I think this is a REALLY optimistic mock draft, and one that seems pretty clearly designed to fuel debate on a Bengals forum.

Have you seen any of the mocks?

Most of them have DeCastro falling near the 17th pick.

by Cry on Jan 7, 2012 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

Most of the mocks I've seen have him gone by 12 or 13.

I think it’s more likely Richardson falls to us than DeCastro. DeCastro is going to go higher than a lot of people think.

What I said was there was pretty much no way ALL THREE of those guys were there at 17. I could easily see one, maybe two, but no way all three.

fair point

And I agree there’s a chance that none of them will fall to us but I think there is just as good of a chance that one does. The bottom line is it’s fun to specualte and that’s why when you search for 2012 mock drafts you can find thousand of them:)

I think it was oregonbengalsfan

that said somewhere he talked to a small school scout that said Jenkins probably wouldn’t even be a first rounder. For the Cowboys it was between Jenkins and Dennard and finally we just picked one to move along. If we put Jenkins in that spot instead of Dennard would that make it more realistic in your eyes?

I say we do another mock like this after post season and announce it ahead of time to get more people here. That way we can get more opinions and get a more accurate mock idea. Also saying that Adrian Peterson slipped to 7 kinda shows my point. You need a ridiculous talent at RB to be taken that high in the first, and there are still people that would argue against taking a RB there. That’s why it’s POSSIBLE to slip out of the top 15.

Trent Richardson is every bit the prospect Adrian Peterson was

I’m starting to come down on Jenkins a bit. The fact that he wasn’t completely dominant in Div II makes me worry. Either he isn’t that good or he just checked out when he wasn’t in the spotlight anymore. Either way I think I’d rather have Dennard.

Right but if teams have a bigger need at another position

and there is a player that has value in that position when they pick, there is just as good a chance they take the other player. Depending on free agent signings, there aren’t a ton of teams from 8-17 that would need a RB. KC might but I don’t think they do since they have Charles ( I know he’s coming off injury), Seattle or Cleveland might if they don’t resign their own, after that probably Jets have the biggest chance of taking him… which I could easily see happening, but I could also easily see them taking a linebacker which generally are picked higher than RBs. We’ll just have to wait and see :-P

I agree with you on the teams between 8-17

That’s why I’ve said if he makes it past Buffalo (who might be a little concerned about Fred Jackson’s knee, but I doubt it) then there’s a really good chance of him falling to at least the Jets at 16. But I don’t see Rex Ryan passing on him there.

by eric nyc on Jan 7, 2012 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

The Browns are going to be hard pressed to pass up Blackmon or RG3 if either are there

If they go in the top 3, which is possible, then I think the Browns take Richardson at #4. If Richardson falls to 10 I can see him slipping pretty close to us, but not getting past the Jets. If he gets past Buffalo at 10 I think we should be getting on the phone to Philly and Dallas and see how much it would cost to move up a couple spots, because then I think we could easily get him at 14 or 15.

by eric nyc on Jan 7, 2012 11:58 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah I think that could be another good possibility. Someone actually posted a similar idea in the Cowboys and Eagles section.

And yes you are right that Jets have a good chance of taking Richardson, but Rex Ryan being defensive minded I can also see him wanting to take a defensive player, esp OLB.

Trent Richardson will fall (because nobody views taking a RB that high as a good move anymore)

Every team ahead of Cincy already has an RB:

INDY…multiple round n/a
STL…S Jackson round 1
WAS…E Royster round 6
CLE…P Hillis round 7
TB…L Blount UFA
MIN…A Peterson round 1
JAX…M Jones-Drew round 2
CAR…J Stewart/D Williams round 1
MIA…D Thomas round 2
BUF…F Jackson UFA
SEA…M Lynch round 1
KC…J Charles round 3
ARI…B Wells round 1
DAL…D Murray round 3
PHI…L McCoy round 2
NYJ…S Greene round 3

Many of these teams are getting their stud RB’s in round 2, 3 or even much later. I don’t see this trend discontinuing. Thereofre, i’d be surprised if Trent wasn’t still there at 17, and again when they make their 2nd pick, and hopefully after that, too…

by ephram on Jan 7, 2012 3:31 PM EST reply actions

I doubt he makes it out of the first round

and there is a chance teams ahead of us take him depending on free agent signings. He’s too good of a prospect to fall out of the first round, but I can easily see him falling out of the top 15 because teams aren’t taking RBs as early and because all the teams in this draft have much bigger needs to fill than RB.

by Luke on Jan 7, 2012 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

Not a chance he slips to the 2nd round

EVeryone keeps talking about trends with Richardson and DeCastro – both of these guys are the best prospects at their position to come out in 5 years or more.

The Bengals interior line

is three free agents they got from somewhere else, 2 of whom are free agents in 2012, and which grades as 30th in the league when they run up the gut.

There’s no point drafting an elite RB if your line stinks. The Bengals line stinks.
