Bengals Sign Kicker Thomas Weber To Reserve/Future Contract
According to the Bengals' official Twitter account, the team signed kicker Thomas Weber to a reserve/future contract on Friday, which means he will go on the team's roster when the offseason begins.
#Bengals sign free agent K Thomas Weber to a Reserve/Future contract. He will go on the roster when the offseason begins.
Weber, who kicked for the Arizona State Sun Devils, competed for a position on the Bengals roster during the 2011 preseason. He didn't attempt a field goal in the three preseason games he played in but he did go two-for-two on extra points and averaged 68.2 yards on kickoffs with one touchback.
Weber will once again compete for a position during the offseason, which hopefully will be delayed by a Bengals win in Houston on Saturday.

Not sure how I feel about this
Weird move to make when Nugent has been having some struggles and yet we’re about to need him for the playoffs— does this motivate him to kick better, or distract him? I’m leaning toward the latter, and this being poor timing.
+1
I was thinking the same thing.

I disagree
Nugent did some of his best kicking when he was competing with rayner

I'm not sure it's really a big deal.
Just the FO starting to get players signed for the offseason. If not now, I think other teams would be free to sign them to their offseason squads.
Thomas Weber was on our roster through camp, so we’ve dealt with him before, and because of that, Nugent should be able to understand that it’s not a big thing, it’s not uncommon to take two kickers through camp.
This is so Nugent can rest his leg and not get injured in training camp and preseason.
Paul Brown Stadium, where everyone's hopes go to die.
My point wasn't why are we signing a kicker for the offseason...
…it was why are we signing a kicker for the offseason now.
IDK about that, Bengals can sign any kickers later near draft time, even UDFA kickers.

The only thing I thought was.......they must see some potential to do it this early.
I think is ok, always looking to upgrade. I can see the thinking from above because Nugent has struggled recently…..

the timing is off
why are we doing this right now…especially right before a playoff game..maybe we needed to lock this guy up for camp??…but just a kicker though huh?ok..cant wait for tomorrow

The Nuuuuge
I still have faith in Cat Scratch Fever and I’ll be at the game so if he misses another FG I’ll put a Strangle Hold on him. ;-)

I've never heard of this type of contract.
Its less than a practice squad contract which makes it not very meaningful. I am quite sure that Nugent knows that his poor performance of late all but guarantees a full on kicker competition next summer.
this sounds like an attempt to motivate the Nuuge
and after missing a few field goals…..jus sayin……this is the NFL..

So what's wrong with Nugent ?
With the timing, it’s like they’re saying we’re in the playoffs and you better not miss
if nudge misses vs the texans, i'm blaming our coaches
nudge should not have to be looking over his shoulder in the playoffs.

Wrong college...
He didn’t kick for the Arizona State Wildcats. He kicked for the Sun Devils. (Wildcats are Arizona)
Yep, you're right.

I want Nuge to stay
He missed two kicks all year until these last 2 weeks. The misses definitely hurt but there were kicked with pretty bad winds. No excuses I know but I still have faith in him
AJ Green = Optimus Prime
This should motivate him
He was kicking great when he was competing with dave rayner

This is not a big deal...
…they like something in the guy, why not lock him for next year for competition? We should pass on talented players because it might “hurt the egos” of our guys before a playoff game?
