"This is not the end. This is the Beginning"

The Sun is just rising on a new era.

Star-divide

This team will make the playoffs and go deep next season. This, lets not forget this(despite Marvins line) was a rebuilding year. Heck we were supposedly the worst team in the NFL...we made the playoffs. We had a Rook QB and rook no 1 WR and a first year OC. Ok the OC may go to the jags but I see Urban getting promoted and running essentialy the same system.

I see us drafting a CB, OG and RB high. Its goodbye to Ced Benson,Chris Crocker and hopefully some revamping/retooling on the o line, and at the very least we are far more desirable for FA's this off season than we were this year. One move that we gotta make that nobody has made much noise about is resigning Pat Sims,IMHO his loss had a massive effect on the Dline rotation. I can also see Clements moving inside to safety. I will take Manny lawson, and Frostee Rucker back too.

This team has a real chance to progress, the dark spectre of Mike Brown always tempers my hopes but Surely we cant allow this chance to pass.

Todays loss hurts to my core,it was a slow painfull slide starting in the last few moments of the first half(or if your a true cynic, around midseason) but put it in perspective if you can...sideline the hurt, the angst, the damaged pride, the dull throb in your guts, dry your eyes, keep your chin up lads, coz this team will be back next year. I'm not drinking the Kool Aid( I did that in my teens and twenties when I used to think Big Daddy and jon Copeland could be great and Neil O'donnel could be a great pick up..lol) this is different.

This is a new dawn. the time of being afraid to believe completely is over.

THIS IS THE BEGINNING

We all love our team...love hurts sometimes.

Thank you for staying positive

so much negativity flows from some people when their upset over a loss, anyway brighter future ahead, hopefully Mike makes some more good decisions this offseason, cause it will ultimately be up to him how it all goes

Agreed

And a great beginning it is. Being negative about this season is crazy. We were supposed to lose every game and get our butts kicked. We fought every step of the way and we’re a couple bounces (or ref calls) from getting to 11 wins. Am proud of our boys and way you look at it. Remember, it could be worse……you could be a Browns fan. Then your clinging to maybe RGIII to turn around your franchise, good luck with that!

Optimism?

Only counts when you have something to build on. Every year we have something to build on. This year we had something to build on but when we get into the payoffs we lay an egg. Every year we lay an egg and i don’t understand why people can’t see this. I have had enough of being let down.
As a life long Bengals fan, when is enough, enough?
Yeah, their future looks promising, but every year does…. Please help me as I’m ready to jump!!!! This episode with Marvin was despicable and looks to be the end for me.
I have been a Bengals fan for all my life and I can’t take it anymore. I went to the local bar tonight and people laughed and told me what the outcome will be. I stood my ground and looked like a complete idiot. If they at least could of made it a close game, I would have had a leg to stand on. I tried to explain about the rebuilding but no one wants to hear it anymore..
False hope and crying wolf, saying we will have a better year next year doesn’t work anymore. I am starting to agreeeeee!
I think Marvin has to go….

Lord, I have lost it and I can’t stand to say it but they suck!!

We were expected to go 0-16, we went 9-8.........

a +9 in that category gives me the optimism. Did you predict playoffs to start the year? After preseason when we all but gave a great argument for an 0-16 season? There is more optimism now than I have ever had or remembered. We are young, armed with some cash and draft picks. We re-built overnight from a 4-12 season, that is not easy to do. Sure our schedule was easier, but we were about a handful of plays away from being an 11 win team. I understand your frustration, but also understand there is only 1 Super Bowl champ each year. The other 31 teams fans are on draft boards spewing negativity just like this. But the difference for us is…….we won 9 and made the playoffs. That to me, is reason enough to truly be optimistic.

OK then

what about last year? Didn’t you have that feeling that after the 09’ season we were SB bound? Or close to it? We have something to build on and it’s a mediocre team.
I know that there is only 1 SB champ, but seriously, after todays performance and the coaching, do you think there is a chance? There is always a chance year after year and what happens?
You can always take the past out of the equation, but it bites the Bengals in the ass. For the past is the future, it never fails….
We won 11 games in 05’ and we won 10 games in 09’. What has been the outcome? Obviously there is a hump here and Marvin can’t get over it no matter what.. Something has to change other than personnel/players….

by WHYUS!! on Jan 7, 2012 9:45 PM EST up reply actions

not even close

we had way too many me first players and we all knew it, this team is young and not built through free agency, we have a me first guy right now too (Benson) but I don’t expect him to be back, we didn’t have the 2 mid to late first rounders and we all expected a hold out, we didn’t have the extra funds to sign decent free agents thanks to the me first players which I refuse to name but we all know who they are. Can you honestly sit there and tell me this feels like 09? In my opinion which aint worth two cents anyway…it doesn’t.

by joeb69 on Jan 7, 2012 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

You underestimate the free agent impact on this team

possibly because the free agents are scrubs (a lot of ‘em).
Six of 11 starters on defense today were other teams’ picks.
On offense, they had 4 starters who were other teams’ picks and one guy who was nobody’s pick (a free agent signing)

In other words, only half the starters were Bengals draft picks. That’s actually low compared to many other teams (Packers have 14 of 22, for example)

Thank you for seing the truth WhyUs

I haven’t been watching this team nearly as long as most of you have, but I don’t go easy on them. Our defense was the problem back in the day (mid 2000’s). The games were close in 09, and last year the offense wasn’t good enough. This year, the secondary was subpar and people wanna believe Dalton is better than he is. He could be good in the future, but he was bad the second half of the season (when we played good teams), and awful today. We need a real #2 receiver. And we could use improvement on the O-line. And naturally a RB. But since Marvin can’t get the job done, he needs to go. And we need to actually do something in free agency. Clements was a good pickup to replace J.Jo, but we should have given him the money to stay. M.B. needs to stop being an idiot and take care of business already.

For the record

I am not blaming Dalton for this loss. I’m not even blaming the players. I’m blaming Marvin, b/c it’s his team and couldn’t even prepare/adjust in the 2nd half, as usual. That is what this team is known for since he’s been here……

I am really shocked that so many expected to win the SB this year.

We have a good young team but they are missing some pieces, had some significant injuries, and are not ready yet. A good draft, some free agents, and we will get closer. I’m not sure why there is shock at this playoff loss. They are growing. This loss builds upon the future. I am pretty sure with a good draft, getting Hall and Shipley back, and making some other adjustments, we will win a playoff game next year, and maybe go all the way.

Just wanted to post a positive vibe lads

i’m as gutted and as pissed off we lost as anyone else but I firmly believe the worm has turned. I try and stay out the game threads as it is too easy to get down. We all love our team and it hurts like hell to see them beat down, I’d say it hurts even more after all the shit we have been through with the lost decade then the crumbling of the Carson era.

I feel the negativity,I feel that “I knew this was gonna happen” vibe, My wife asked why I continue to watch as they always do this but the truth is, i firmly believe this team has a solid base. I think we have Smith, Cook and Whit and hope we keep collins, thats a pretty decent line,we have Andy,AJ, Gresh,Shipley( not decided on Jerome tbh). I like our Dline when its healthy,REY will get better and Howard is a decent LB. our secondary needs work but has guys like Clements,Jennings who are depth.

Why Us..i understand alot of what your saying, but you stand up for your team, who do those that laugh stand for…whoever is winning at that particular time I’d bet…but thats the thing; the satisfaction they get when they see thier latest bandwagonning success pales in significance when you experience our victories, such as our win in Tennessee or when we beat cleveland in week one when we were all thankfull we didnt look awfull!!

i know it probably means little just now,and like you,its twenty odd years(or more in your case) of frustration but this is a new team with guys like Dunlap,Atkins,Dalton,Green,Whit,Gresh etc who will not be beaten IMHO.

Stand Strong,Stand True,Stand Free…what you lost tonight, you’ll get back, its in your blood mate. Black and Orange.

Marvin taking us into the playoffs 2 times in 3 yrs with 2 different QBs.

Shows that we are moving in the right direction. 20 teams didn’t make the playoffs, we did. Don’t forget that.

Don't Forget.....WE PLAY IN "THE" TOUGHEST DIVISION IN THE LEAGUE!

We could’ve won the South or the West easy this year.

I’m glad we play in the North, It’ll make us that much better over the next few years as we build our Dynasty.

We’re gonna be okay.
