GIANTS AT BENGALS HUB
See all of our stories relevant to the Cincinnati Bengals Week Ten matchup against the New York Giants.
The Cincinnati Bengals look to snap a four-game losing streak against the New York Giants on Sunday. A loss would give Cincinnati their third season with at least a five-game losing streak since 2003 when head coach Marvin Lewis took over. Cincinnati lost eight straight in 2008 and ten straight in 2010.
Wide receiver Marvin Jones won't play Sunday with a knee. Reggie Nelson is extremely doubtful, having sat during each practice this week with a hamstring. Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick will be a game-time decision, suffering a new injury (thigh) during practice; forced into limited participation on Thursday while missing Friday's practice entirely.
QUESTION ABOUT STARTING CENTER
Starting center Jeff Faine, currently listed as questionable, worked gingerly on a bum hamstring this week, limiting him during practice on Thursday and Friday. Trevor Robinson, also dealing with a hamstring, didn't sit this week and was full participation on Friday. At this point we're projecting Robinson to start Sunday against the Giants, with Faine likely backing him up.
On the other hand if Faine can't go even as a backup, starting left guard Clint Boling would shift to center with Dennis Roland filling in for Boling.
PAT SIMS RETURNS
Even though the Cincinnati Bengals activated Pat Sims on Friday, it doesn't necessarily mean that he'll play Sunday against the Giants. Sims began practicing on Oct. 31, giving the team a three-week exemption which would have expired on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Per league rules the Bengals would have had to make a decision on Sims, finding a spot on the 53-man roster or an appropriate season-ending list.
However with the team activating him on Friday, releasing productive special teams contributor Roddrick Muckelroy in the process, it's logical to conclude that Sims will make his 2012 debut against the Giants this weekend. Otherwise why activate him in the first place?
THE BETTING LINE
GIANTS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE BYE
The New York Giants are dealing with a series of injuries heading into their Week 11 bye. Guard Chris Snee and running back Ahmad Bradshaw each missed multiple practices with ankle and foot injuries respectively; though this has been Bradshaw's routine since injuring his foot several weeks ago. Both players are expected to play. However Safety Kenny Phillips, linebacker Jacquian Williams and cornerback Michael Coe are already listed as out.
It even prompted Giants head coach Tom Coughlin to assure the New York media that they're not looking past Cincinnati towards next week's bye.
"I've called upon them to be pros, to focus. I'll take care of everything next week for them. They don't have to worry about that. What they have to worry about is the Cincinnati Bengals."
MANNING WITH ARM FATIGUE?
Giants quarterback Eli Manning could be dealing with a bout of arm fatigue. NFL analyst and expert Greg Cosell said during the Yahoo! Sports podcast on Friday:
“Ron Jaworski and I were having this conversation this week,” Cosell said. “I looked at Eli on Monday; Jaws looked at Eli on Wednesday. And he made a very interesting comment. It really struck me, and I would defer to Jaws on this because I’ve never taken snaps in the NFL. … It looks to him like Eli’s arm is a little tired. And that he’s not driving the ball at the intermediate and deeper levels the way we’ve come to expect. Because Eli has a strong arm.
“And we even got that sort of confirmed by someone who’s a lot closer to the situation. His arm’s a little bit tired right now. He’s missed some throws that he would normally make.”
FIRST BLACKOUT OF THE YEAR
For the first time this season, the Cincinnati Bengals failed to sell out a home game, snapping five consecutive sellouts dating back to the regular season finale against the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite Cincinnatians not having an opportunity to watch the game on television, the Bengals game against the Giants has massive coverage across the states. The game will kickoff at 1 PM (ET) on FOX.
