Bengals Center Kyle Cook Continues To Rehab; No Timetable On Return

Frank Victores-US PRESSWIRE

The Bengals lost Kyle Cook late in the preseason and have had some issues at center since. Cook is on IR, but can be recalled to the roster once he's healthy. He's currently working on getting back.

The 2012 preseason for the Bengals was one to forget. A slew of players were injured throughout the team's four games with the severity of each injury ranging from a couple of weeks to spending the season on Injured Reserve. The offensive line was hit particularly hard with a season-ending knee injury to guard Travelle Wharton in the opener versus the Jets, and another severe ankle injury to center Kyle Cook against the Packers.

Cook's injury didn't seem as severe as Wharton's, as the team designated him their player that they could recall from Injured Reserve when healthy. In case you've forgotten, that was a new league rule from the CBA that was signed last summer. Initial reports had Cook looking to return to the Bengals lineup by "around mid-season". Well, here we sit at the near-completion of Week Ten and no sign of Cook returning as of yet.

In his weekly address to the media, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis touched on the subject of Cook and noted that Cook is "rehabbing, though not sure when he will return". Cook's high ankle sprain was so severe that some think that nerve damage was done in the ankle area.

The center position since Cook went down has been one of inconsistent play. Jeff Faine was signed off of the street and hasn't played all that well and the team has begun trusting the job to undrafted rookie, Trevor Robinson. The youngster got some extensive time on Sunday against the Giants and held his own against the proud Giants defensive line.
