Bengals Rookie Cornerback Shaun Prater Returns For Rehabilitation

David Purdy

Fifth-round cornerback Shaun Prater returned to the Cincinnati Bengals this week to rehabilitate a knee injury that he suffered early during training camp.

It's been so long that one may have forgotten. The Cincinnati Bengals drafted not one, but two cornerbacks during the 2012 NFL draft this year. Dre Kirkpatrick may have been the Flavor Flav, but cornerback Shaun Prater was selected in the fifth round (we abandoned the idea of comparing Flava Flav to someone else because he's incomparable).

The former Iowa cornerback suffered a knee injury early in Training Camp this year (August 2), placed on Injured Reserve by the end of the month. He was one of two young cornerbacks looking to compete for a spot on the 53-man roster, which included Brandon Ghee, who was similarly placed on season-ending Injured Reserve with a wrist injury.

Prater returned to the Bengals this week and began rehabilitation work, working on the side field with injured safety Reggie Nelson, who sat for the second practice this week (and the fifth straight). Both present an interesting scenario at a position that will only include Leon Hall, Jason Allen and Dre Kirkpatrick signed for 2013.
