Per the NFL Game Book, Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer was hit eight times. The Bengals radio network cited at least 13 with the enthusiastic Dave Lapham saying as many at 15 shots. However what's not in dispute is that the Cincinnati Bengals sacked Carson Palmer four times on Sunday.
Geno Atkins recorded the first sack early, by the 13:36 mark in the first quarter. Two plays later Michael Johnson added another that eventually forced Oakland into fourth and 20 from their own 25-yard line. The Bengals scored four plays later, thanks to a 48-yard sprint by BenJarvus Green-Ellis to the .00001 inch line. Wallace Gilberry added a third quarter sack.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Manny Lawson forced a fumble on a sack that was recovered by Rey Maualuga. Mike Nugent converted the 20-yard field goal to give Cincinnati a 27-10 lead.
After the game Carlos Dunlap was asked about Palmer's return.
"We got a lot of hits on him, we rattled him," Fox 19's Joe Danneman tweeted. The best quote postgame quote?
"Welcome back to Cincinnati."
