Todd McShay: Bengals One Of Five Teams That Could Shake-Up The First Round
ESPN Draft expert/guru Todd McShay produces a list of teams that may generate the most noise in the first round (In$ider) during the 2012 NFL Draft. The Cleveland Browns and the question regarding quarterback Robert Grffin III, the Washington Redskins for the same reason, the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots. The fifth team? Your Cincinnati Bengals.
One of the reasons McShay believes that the Bengals could shake up the first round is primarily Alabama running back Trent Richardson. McShay writes:
That leaves Cincinnati with the option of upgrading at running back, and if Richardson should fall to the edge of the top 10, packaging one of their first-round picks -- perhaps with a second-rounder -- becomes an attractive option for the Bengals. Remember, given the rookie salary structure that took effect in 2011 , trading up that high now costs about half as much as it used to in terms of contract dollars.
That being said if the Bengals remain at 17 and 21 in the first round, McShay sees the teams going after Stanford guard David DeCastro and then the idea of going after the next best player.
Cincinnati could also enact the "best available player" philosophy if Jenkins, Stanford OT Jonathan Martin or Alabama OLB/DE Courtney Upshaw begin sliding down the board. Either way, that extra pick makes the Bengals a dangerous team that could make plenty of noise.

the bengals are going to shake it up on draft day.
no they aren’t. the bengals don’t trade. you could offer the cincy bengals your entire draft and they still wouldnt trade you, ask the saints. you could offer the bengals three 1st round picks and they won’t budge, ask the redskins.
the bengals are drafting at 17 and 21. unless someone offers them a nice trade option to slide down a spot or two. the bengals wont trade up. nor do they need to. nor do they have a history of trading up under mike brown.
we’re getting the best corner available if decastro and richardson are gone at 17. what happens at 21 will depend on who the BPA available is.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
things seem to be a bit different in the front office, couldn't you tell

name the last year a mike brown bengals team traded up in the draft?
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
One of the reasons the NFL is great
Is because it’s so unpredictable. I’m not going to say I want the Bengals to trade up or down but going by the history of doing so is not a good way of looking at it. In the past I think MB was pissed he had to draft so high but with the rookie salary cap it may be different because you won’t have to pay a possible bust a kings ransom. Same can be said for teams trading down now. I don’t see that happening as much as teams wanting to trade up. In the past if a team wanted a certain player but he was predicted to go lower teams traded down to get him because position and where he was drafted played a big part in the salary negotiations.

hope we dont trade up.
there is enough value to be had to help this team at 17 and 21 without giving up one of those picks for a higher pick.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
Probably when they got Ki-jana Carter
They traded up from 5 to 1 but that was probably the first and last time Brown trades up.

hard not to blame carter as bengals fans
that early injury in his 1st pre-season more or less flushed his NFL career.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
That Bengal cement field
Before we got the stadium was taking careers away, faster than Obama
sorry just had to throw that in there, not really a political debate
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
No worries...
Just IMO you need to switch Obama for Bush. I’m also not looking for a political debate.

AD to AJ = TD!!

yes it did
that and coming back too soon and getting injured almost immediately
I really thought he was going to be something special. Basically the career Curtis Martin had was exactly what I expected out of Carter.
and palmer was not traded during the last draft
not sure you were wanting to make my point again, but thanks.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
Bengals SHOULD take DeCastro
& then they should take Dre Kirkpatrick if he’s there OR take Mark Barron if he’s there…& then in in the 2nd round if we take Dre Kirkpatrick with our 2nd 1st, we should take Barron in the 2nd round if he fell that far, & if we took Barron with our 2nd 1st we should take CB Chase Minnifield in the 2nd round.
1st RD-Dre Kirkpatrick-CB
1st RD-Mark Barron-SS
2nd RD-Brandon Thompson-DT
3rd RD-Amini Silatolu-OG
4th RD-Marvin Jones-WR
5th RD-Marquis Maze-KR
FA:
OG-Carl Nicks
RB-Micheal Bush
I like Stephen gilmore
But ill take a CB over a saftey at this point we need alot of help at CB

if we got decastro, kirkpatrick, and then barron in the 2nd
peter king would still call the bengals draft, “average” at most. if he even acknowledged it. floria would still proclaim the bengals the afc north cellar dweller pick of 2012.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
florio
he is a joke. im certain he never picked us one time this year. I think he had the cardnials beating us by 10. biggest trash affiliated with the nfl

Agree
What’s that dudes deal anyway? He’s always been a dick toward the Bengals. Hell PFT in general is negative towards the Bengals. Go on there and say some bad stuff about any other team and they take your post off but people say all kinds of BS about the Bengals and it’s okay.

An interesting draft for us regardless. Excited has hell, this will be the most exciting draft in years!

i think Todd might be on to something
if upshaw falls to us at the 21st pick id take him. if Richardson falls around the 10 pick, would trade up to get him as well.
We have an extra 2nd round pick from the raiders. So we would essentially be trading Palmer for Ricardson. Sounds good to me!
AMAS
We don't have an extra second rounder
until next year, and if the raiders make it to the conference championship game then it is upgraded to a first rounder.
we in that case, just trade them our 2nd round pick and keep the raiders
either way, richardson is worht our 17th and next years 2nd round pick IMO
AMAS
I'd rather the Raider's just suck
Take a high second rounder, its just a few spots to get the first rounder anyway
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
2nd rnd pick from Palmer is next yr
If they want to take that then hell yeah. I want Richardson as a Bengal bad but I don’t want them to go over board to do it. If he gets close and we can put something good together I say "you can do it"!
by Bigcatdaddy on Feb 10, 2012 4:03 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
thats what i was implying, trade them our extra 2nd round pick from next year
that would be well worth it for trent richardson if we have to trade is the 17th and next years 2nd round pick for him.
AMAS
Hell yeah!
It might even help to tell them it could possibly be a 1st. We know it’s not going to be but there’s always that possibility. I’ve been saying to use it if we trade for awhile. Some team may want to roll the dice on it.
by Bigcatdaddy on Feb 10, 2012 4:12 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
If we give our 17 plus next yrs Oak pick then hell yeah!
We’re still getting 2 1st rnd picks and the best RB to hit the draft since AP and no one will even remember that 2nd Oak pick come next yr.
by Bigcatdaddy on Feb 10, 2012 4:24 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Does the trade implication still apply?
If we gave them our second and it became a 1st. Then do we potentially lose out on a 1. Essentially giving them 2 first rounders.
by Cincinnati222 on Feb 10, 2012 4:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
That seals the deal. NO
Why risk giving up a potential first rounder.
by Cincinnati222 on Feb 10, 2012 4:32 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
You really think that pick is going to be a 1st?
Wilder things have happed but I would be willing to bet both my nutts it won’t. No team is going to trade us 1st and take a 2nd from next year unless its within maybe 2 or 3 spots. If we got TR you wouldn’t even miss that 2013 2nd rnd pick via Oakland.
by Bigcatdaddy on Feb 10, 2012 4:48 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Just amount to a few spots weather its a first or 2cd,worst case would be for the raider's to be in the middle of the pack
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
I'd like a multi deal with Philly
our 17 & 21 for 15, 46 & 51 If Richardson is there or our 3rd and get back their fourth
My prediction
Bengals will not trade up. They will keep their picks. I think they will grab either Decastro with their #17: if not then best available CB. I think they will stay away from big salary FAs (they will sign free agents just not the best). Their #21 pick will be BPA in reguard to need and who they got with #17. Second Rd. pick will be a RB who they like (personally I hope it’s Martin).

We must not lose a second. Todd McShay is in the hunt.
Do the bengals want a Dear Or Elephant.
Richardson is Both!!!
Will the Bengals Trade Down for the Best Back in the last few years is the Question.
Will the Bengals eat Cabbage or Steak?
Will the Big Three Mike and Mike and Jay get it right?
Just for goofs. I give the Dreamers a chance to make a move that will dazzle the world of football,
What is Worth? Will the Bengals push the Botton?

Or will the Bengals sit back like the fool on the hill.

If we make a trade
Here’s what I would like us to do.
Keep our 2 first round picks.
- - Kirkpatric CB (or best CB available, and imo that’s not Jenkins but that’s a different discussion)
- - Donte Hightower ILB
Round 2
Trade our 3rd round pick, 5th round pick, and next years 2nd round pick to NE for there 2nd round pick #48
- - Doug Martin RB
- - Kevin Zeitler G
Round 3 traded away to NE
Round 4
Derrek Wolfe DT
Round 5
Levy Adcock OT
2nd pick traded to NE
Round 6
Matt Daniels SS
Yeah trade but please not to Pats
One thing I’m looking forward to is them using their picks don’t give ’em anymore
New England wont trade their 2nd round pick
Look at what they are sitting with two 1st round picks two 2nd round picks a 3rd &4th round pick but no 5,6,7th round picks, it would not make since for them to trade sorry but keep dreaming
actually
if they can get a bunch of picks out of one, that sounds exactly like something the Patriots would do.
