New Mock Draft!

This mock draft will be focused on defense. It could happen but it's not gonna be sexy or popular. It would be nice to realize though that this team is really close to having a championship defense.

Star-divide

1a. LB. Dont'a Hightower. This guy could be our starting MLB if Maulauga turns out to be a subpar playing thug.

1b. CB. Janoris Jenkins. A true cover corner that although a bit undersized has showed he can cover the best wideouts 1-1 in college.

2. G. Kevin Zeitler. Could be a great starting guard in the NFL. Opened huge holes for Montee Ball all year long.

3. DE. Vinny Curry. Great motor but needs to get polished to be a starter at the next level. Could realistically fall this far in the draft.

4. RB. Robert Turbin. Runs like a monster. IMO, could be the steal of the draft.

5a. DT. Marcus Forston. Would be a nice pick up in the 5th. Pat Sims replacement if he leaves.

5b. FS. Aaron Henry. Nelson's back up and potential starter for the future.

6. WR. Devier Posey. Could slip all the way here due to his inconsistent hands. Excellent route runner.

7. CB. Cliff Harris. A lot of character concerns but has 1st round talent. If he slips to the 7th I wouldn't hesitate for a second.

We'd need to fill other holes through free agency but this draft could help us quite a bit.

Love the Curry Pick

But I’m a bit biased because I am a Marshall alumni and fan. I don’t think he will drop to the 3rd round though. He really shined in the Senior Bowl practices and during the game. If he has a great combine and pro day I think he has a real chance of sneaking into the first round.

I have watched this young man play for the last 4 years and he is an outstanding football player. He is an great pass rusher and has a high motor. On top of that was a great young man off the field and a team leader. He’s a little undersized at 6’3 265 and might project more as a rush linebacker in a 3-4 defense.

I think he'll slip a-la Michael Johnson.

Not the Same

Johnson slipped because it was perceived that he didn’t play hard all of the time and took plays off. Plus he has a tall, thin build. Curry is the total opposite. This kid brings it every play. Plus Curry is 4 inches shorter than Johnson, but weighs about the same. He has a much thicker build and can stand up to the punishment of being an every down player.

We’ll see what happens, but I don’t think Curry will end up with the Bengals and I think he will end up getting selected early to mid second round.

Yeah..

I didn’t mean a-la Johnson in the sense that he would slip for the same reasons. I meant that teams are going to shy away from him like they did from Johnson. I agree with your comment, they are opposite in that sense. But Curry is perceived raw. He’s rated as a 2nd rounder by most accounts so slipping 1 round is not that far off. I hope he does and I hope we snatch him.

Factor in a few FA signings and that would definitely take care of the D.

As much as Cliff Harris scares me, not too much risk in taking the guy in the 7th compared to the typical throw away guy we would take. Love the Zeitler pick too, would love this even more if we signed a big name G in FA.

I don't like Jenkins in the first

I would prefer Gilmore or Dennard, though Kirkpatrick would be ideal. Jenkins hasn’t seperated himself enough to merit the risk of taking him. Especially when we are facing character questions with Rey, SImpson and Jones going into next season.

I like Jenkins

because there is tape of him doing a great job covering Julio Jones and AJ Green when he was in Florida. I think without his character concerns he could be a top 10 pick.

To me this is a love/hate post

Because I love everything about it except the CB’s. However as much as I love the other choices I dislike your CB selections just as much:) It’s just my opinion, but I’m not sold on Jenkins at all.

Maualuga should be replaced next year

Next year we should go after Manti Te’o from Notre Dame…I know Rey isn’t very good with his lack of tackling ability, taking bad angles, over running the play & sitting in open space in pass coverage, but i don’t think were looking to go that route in taking a MLB this year…We have other needs.

1st RD-Dre Kirkpatrick-CB
1st RD-Cordy Glenn-OG
2nd RD-Brandon Thompson-DT
3rd RD-Amini Silatolu-OG
4th RD-Marvin Jones-WR
5th RD-Marquis Maze-KR

FA:
SS-Laron Landry
RB-Micheal Bush

Would love to get Te'o coming out next year.........

give Rey one more year and if he can’t cut it, then move on. He was a second round pick (granted a high 2nd, but still a second)…..it’s not like we’re moving on from a top 5 guy. He’s gotta feel the heat already too, so maybe he steps it up this year and finally reaches his potential now that he knows time is running out.
