Please go get Mario Williams Mike Brown!!!!!

Maybe if we all ask real nice and get enough people talking about us signing him it will help get Mike Brown to listen. Please answer this email with how much you think it will help us and maybe someone will get the message to him. I think he would fit perfect in this defence and think he may have more talent then any other DE in the league. With him, a good corner and improved safety play I think we will have the best D in the North.

Hate to rain on the parade too......

but don’t even consider him for a free agent signing for us.

i couldnt even begin to imagine the type of contract cincy would have to offer him to come here

we’re talking albert haynesworth to the redskins “shocking the nfl standards” type of contract. we’re probably have to give mario 60 million for 4 years with 60 million of it guaranteed. and 30 million of it up front as a bonus.

off topic

but, since it was brought up Haynesworth was released yet again today by the Bucs

personally

I don’t want to see Marvin fired, I want him to be promoted to G.M. while handing the reigns over to Zimmer as head coach. Who Dey!!!

And hopefully it's the last time he's ever released or signed by an NFL team.

I most certainly don’t want him coming here and bringing his sorry attitude with him.

by dstacify on Feb 15, 2012 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

sorry

that wasn’t my point, just thinking, what if we gave Mario that kind of money and he has a similar career, would be very dissappointing especially since he’s coming off an injury plagued year

Tough to live up to that type of money for one player......

odds are and past examples (Cheeseburger Haynesworth especially) have proven they typically don’t even come close. Williams is a beast, when healthy. That’s already in question somewhat, don’t take that type of shot.

$15M+ per year is a little steeper than I'd expect, but I don't think it's too far off.

I expect at least $12 million, and a bidding war could potentially drive it up past $15 million. And it might take more to get him in Cincy than most other places because our fine city lacks the glamour of some others.

But if it was at all possible to get him, having him on one edge and Dunlap on the other would make this defense FILTHY. Opposing QBs would spend the rest of their Sundays in the ice bath.

already looked up the values for another thread

2010 Dumervil got a six-year $61.5 million contract. (43 million of that guaranteed.)
2010 Gerald McCoy got a 5 year 63 million deal.
2011 Haloti Ngata got a 5-year $61 million deal.
2011 Paul Soliai got a 1 year tag of 12.4 million.
2011 Richard Seymour got a 30 million 2 year deal.

the 10 top list of the highest paid nfl players, 60% of that, 6 players are pass rushers. the other 4 are qbs.

Dear Mike

If you do this, I will buy season tickets. Completely serious.

As much I would like the idea of signing him...

and it would probably be the most positive thing to happen to any of my sports teams since well most recently when Ohio State hired Urban Meyer, I just don’t see it happening. Williams is going to be an extremely expensive signee if we even entertain the idea of him coming here although it would make for a nice bit of revenge on the Texans for snatching J-Joe away from us if it were to happen. But I don’t think it will, not with Mike Brown calling the shots in free agency. But positions of need have to be our number one priority in free agency and D-line isn’t really a position of need outside of re-signing our own guys like Rucker, Fanene, and Sims. Our defensive line is already pretty close to being an elite unit if they aren’t already but I most certainly wouldn’t be upset if we managed to land Williams in free agency by any means although it likely would mean one of the three guys out of Sims, Rucker, and Fanene would be gone to make room for Williams. But if he were to come here it most certainly would propel our D-line into elite status provided he can stay healthy. But I don’t see it happening, not with Mike Brown calling the shots.

With Mario

Makes everyone on the D better. If you only have to cover for 3sec it makes you look good. If you don’t have time to go deep helps safeties.

I'd rather go after a guy like Jeremy Mincey.

And continue to let MJ develop. We don’t need any record breaking contracts to deal with.

by Cry on Feb 15, 2012 7:36 PM EST reply actions

people need to consider what a superstar contract would do to our d-line as well.

you can’t platoon one of the highest paid players in the nfl. so we’re have fewer players being utilized in the rotation.

would also mean we couldn’t afford to keep resigning our current d-line, we’d have to replace them with rookies every time a current player became a free agent.

+1

When Atkins and Dunlap need to get paid someone will get the short end of the stick!

Doubt Jacksonville lets him go

They have a good amount of cap room too.

But they also need to be really aggressive in Free Agency.

It’s possible. If not Mincey I’d like a vet like Israel Idonije and a young guy from the draft.

by Cry on Feb 15, 2012 11:50 PM EST up reply actions

Melvin Ingram might fall.

He’d be an interesting first round pick. And I think if Mercilus has a good combine, he could be a draft riser. Maybe worthy of that 21st pick.

Name me a team

That has won a SB in recent memory that did not have at least one premier pass rusher. NY several GB Mathews NO Will Smith(maybe a reach) Pit Harrison NY again several Indy Freeney

by js3806 on Feb 15, 2012 9:41 PM EST reply actions

Dunlap when healthy and Atkins...

are premier pass rushers… Luckily for you though he is coming off season ending injury so that may make his super contract no so super…

I don't think he gets Julius Peppers money but

He could potentially get a deal that will be anywhere from 18-24 million dollar cap hit the first year. Yes the middle part of the contract would be between 11-15 but thats a lot of money for a guy that plays a position that we have good young guys at already. You can go out and get a Nicks and one of the best corners on the market for that kind of money and the team would probably be better off.

by EPK1979 on Feb 16, 2012 12:59 PM EST reply actions

How are our good young pass rushers???

MJ is OK but not great and Dunlap flashed his rookie year and was hurt all last year so you can not call him a premier player yet but I think he can get there. Look at what the Giants did with the front line. If we can dominate at the line everywhere else will get better. Give him $20 up front for first year and $10 per year for 6 year deal total $70 for 6 or $11.66 per year average and make it were you can get out of the contract after 4 if you need to which would be $12.5 per year for 4

by js3806 on Feb 16, 2012 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

You keep bringing up the Giants..

Yes they have a great DLine but so do we. We were at the top of the league in sacks and pressures. The Giants barely made the playoffs and their success rode more on Manning’s clutch and Victor Cruz than it did that DLine. We don’t need Mario Williams.

by Cry on Feb 16, 2012 4:39 PM EST up reply actions

Name me one team

That won a SB without a top pass rusher! I love Dunlap and Atkins but they are not yet elite and I hope they both get there
