Open Thread: The NFL Offseason Doesn't Mean Vacationing
Cedric Benson is acting childish. The NFL Combine is kicking off. Mock drafts are in full charge. This must be the offseason. But only in name. The truth is that there is no offseason. There is no period in which writers like us at Cincy Jungle get time off. There is no time for Bengals fans to sit back because there's too much to speculate on, too much conjecture or fantasy forecasting. Wait until free agency kicks off, the visits, the rumors, the false reports launching a conveyor-belt of updates. And let's not forget the hours after the NFL Draft when teams sign undrafted free agents, often reported from obscure sources. It's the NFL offseason and we wouldn't have it any other way.

RE:
Can’t, unless they are not signed with another team. Players that will become free agents are still signed to their team and if the Bengals talked to those players, it would amount to tampering.

Don’t worry. I’m antsy too. If for anything, to be done with the NFL draft. It drives me nuts. LOL.

thats what I'm saying
to much speculating going on around this time, makes my head spin. I think any fan can relate to thinking their team is definately going to do one thing, but their team always seems to do another.
Can’t wait to see what direction we are going in as far as the draft and FA, but by the way we are solidifying our coaching staff, the sky is the limit.

You know what we need?
Someone to do a mock draft! I haven’t seen any of those around here and those typically put any speculation to rest.
+1,000,000,000,000,000 and 1
lol jk. they are fun to look at, and no way could I find all these different mock drafts by myself. It’s also going to be cool to see how our own Joe stacks up vs actual draft positions and the other “respected” mockers.
one of us should start a site called "mocking the mock" as well.
wait thats been done already
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
lol thats funny you should say that because I just completed my first one a few days ago
I would have done it sooner but I was trying to wait a little for the mocks to die down lol. Never really happened.

Out of Vandy is a good football player. Watched him a couple times this season. I see him as a Nickel in the League. Anxious to see what he times out at. They’re saying he’s around a 4.5.

Ladarius Webb
I keep hearing people says we should go after Mike Wallace because it will fill a position of need and hurt a divional oppenent is the process. Couldn’t the same thing be said about Ladarius Webb of the Ravens.
I’m not neccessarily a proponent of going after either one just wanted to see what’s everyones thoughts are because Baltimore appears to be having cap issues as well
i guess it all depends on how much they are going to have to pay Rice.
Hope the bengals are prepared to resign Geno, Andy and AJ early because I would be pulling my hair out if one our core players was this close to becoming available to the open market.
I really think the bengals learned their lesson with JJO.

from my gathering
by the time andy and a.j.an be re-signed there should be a jump of the salary cap by 20-30mill, been keeping an eye BTSC, and they are trying to explain why they keep backloading contracts because they were hoping that jump was gonna be this year.
well the steelers are going to be sh*t of luck no matter what because they keep pushing their overages on the next's cap
and they keep doing it, eventually it will catch up with them and they are going to be in big trouble.
But as far as the cap increase, i haven’t heard anything about it, but that would be awesome if does go up that much. AJ’s contract is going to be riduculas. Lol
AMAS
thats a huge jump
They can be signed after 2 more season right.

I think the other aspect of this is analyzing contracts down the road.
Yes, we will have to resign important players but we shouldn’t cripple ourselves now because of it.
"It’s time people started realizing just how good a player Carlos Dunlap already is, and that starts with the Bengals. They gave him a season-high 58 snaps and what was the result? Carnage on the right side of the Seattle line." -Pro Football Focus
I agree
Webb didn’t even give up a td last year. I would much rather spend money and a pick on a player that we actually need. Don’t know if I would go after either one but if I did I would go after Webb.
i'd absolutely talk to webb
on day 1 of FA, and probably call his agent daily until he either signed with another team or came to cincy for a visit.

Ladarius Webb
i wouldn’t mind securing him, he’s young and it would hurt the ravens. not sure of his free agency value, if you pay him based off of last season, he’s probably getting top 15 corner money, prior to last season, then you’re paying him starter’s money but not top 15 money.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/12747/lardarius-webb
maybe he’d take something splitting the difference? 5 million a year for 5 years with a base bump of 500k per season in season 2-5. including a chance at 2.5 million per season in incentives.
i’m still fearing he’s a system guy or a 1 year wonder. probably not the case, would hate to cripple the team long term signing him to a 10+ million dollar a year deal and he scores 1 int for his entire career in cincy while becoming toast with almost not pass defends.
"the bengals are not a west of the 104 longitude team."
Well then...
That being said… Its time to get busy and build a team of good quality players around these two guys. Their rookie contract will be up before we know it….

When does the combine start?
i thought it was today but NFL.com had last years combine to watch “live”. Needless to say, I was confused
A.J. Green is Optimus Prime. Sit down Calvin Johnson, the good guys always win...
