Report: Rey Maualuga Allegedly Involved In Bar Fight; Police Investigating
According to FOX 19's Ethan Goldsmith, Cincinnati Bengals middle linebacker Rey Maualuga was allegedly involved in a bar fight in which he injured a bar manager.
According to the manager, Maualuga was at Luxe, a bar located at the corner of 6th St. and Main St. in downtown Cincinnati, where he allegedly punched the manager, causing him to be injured.
According to the report, the police are currently investigating the altercation and Maualuga has not been charged with a crime and it's unclear as to whether or not he will be.
Rey Maualuga is coming off his first season as the team's starting middle linebacker. If he is charged with a crime, this will not be the first time he's been in trouble in the Greater Cincinnati area. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence in Northern Kentucky in January of 2010.
Stay tuned for more on this story.

This guy.. I swear..
After the DUI he said he was a changed man. I bet he over pursued and punched the manager instead of the guy who picked the fight. Too bad there wasn’t someone there to throw him a block he couldn’t get off of.

first off, it didn't say ray had been drinking
i know he is at a bar, but maybe he just likes the night life. Lets not jump to conclusions already.
AMAS
I never said he was drinking either..
Changed man doesn’t mean he no longer drinks. Changed man means he no longer makes stupid decisions. Clearly that hasn’t happened. I’ll let the justice process play out, this may all be a bunch of nothing, but for now I’m pissed and making jokes at his expense.
always some truth
To these types of allegations. I can’t ever remember a player being accused of getting in a fight that they didn’t get into. Rape, now that is a different story.(ask Big Ben)
"Next season will be better" circa 1990
he wasn't even arrested
it seems like the manager has to decide if he wants to press charges or not.
AMAS
neither was Simpson
How is that turning out?
Athletes and celebs don’t play by the same rules as we do, you know that. I am not saying he is guilty of anything, but"real" news organizations don’t report these types of things without some truth to the story.
"Next season will be better" circa 1990
its actually not as bad as what people were saying, so your actually proving my point!
Simpson may not even face any jail time.
AMAS
Finally!!!
Now we have a GOOD reason to let him go. If it wasnt for all the hair and tattoos he would have never been here in the first place. Its great to see “all hype” players crush thier own cashews.

He would be doing the same stuff.
Except he would probably just punch a player on the field or something to that affect. Maybe a field judge or something.

As long as you're being a problem,

Kuechly has led all of college football in tackles the last few years, and averages 15-20 tackles per game!

I'll reserve judgement until legal process is over
We hear about things like this all the time and a lot of time they amount to nothing. Hope that’s the case here.
why ?
Do we need to hire babysitters for players on this team. It’s rediculous.Everytime you think you are getting rid of the problem another guy steps up to take his spot.

Remember all the talk about how
Julian Edelman was accused of groping a woman on the dance floor? It is an issue all over the league, not just Bengals players, it can happen to anyone on any team, see Marvin Harrison incident. Sometimes, “fans” get over emotional and forget that football players are still people too, and push them to the point of doing something where the player lashes out and all the sudden the media rushes in to pass judgement on the player without knowing the full facts… let us see what the facts are before we condemn Rey.
Remember when Adam Jones was arrested two years ago for a car accident, and then the police officers realized after the fact that they had the WRONG Adam Jones, and they had to apologize to Pacman…Let’s us wait and hear the full facts before we start condemning people….
Ya,that was some BS
Somebody got paid, the wrong Adam Jones

THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT IN MY FAN POST ABOUT DRAFTING VONTAZE BURFICT IF HE IS THERE IN THE 2ND ROUND.
This is like Odell Thurman 2.0. Great talent but can’t hold his alcohol. He is young, so have fun but be smart about it. I am sure some of thus report is false but you can’t allow yourself to be involved in this kind of BS because Reys next screw up will be a suspension and he is too important to lose. rey
this is so disheartening. where is he mentally. he has to realize he is the leader of the defense. i bet he gets another tattoo saying he doesnt regret this either.
I love the Bengals more than you love anything in your life
His play wasn't that good.
This season. I’ve always has LB on my draft board because of his poor play this year. Really at pick 17and 21 who the heck know who will be there? Plus FA is a crap shoot. If I were Rey, I wouldn’t be building a house in Cincy just yet.
These guys have to learn!
They are successful athletes with money and people know that. Not saying this is the case but people are going to push your buttons on purpose and try and get you in trouble or get in your wallet. We really didn’t need this BS! I’m sure the DUI was the slap on the hand and if this shits true he’ll get the kick in the ass with a suspension. MAN when things are looking good someone has to piss in the punch bowl! I’m so mad I’m going to go punch a bar owner! Be back in a few :-P

C'mon man

AJ Green = Optimus Prime
Welp
Providing anything happens, we should be looking at LBs in the first round in case we can’t get a top-flight CB, OG, or RB there. Any LB available would probably provide more value than Barron.

Earlier today we had an update on Leon Hall
Does anyone have an update on how Muckelroy is recovering? He can play MLB and if he’s able to come back 100% I think he can be a stud.
Just when I thought we were headed on the right path...
Get Jerome and Rey off the team. Rey had a terrible season and just looks uninterested on the field. Yeah, he was a beast at USC, but we don’t need this kind of crap on our team.
Take Deisel with them
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
Agree
Take out the Trash
Marvin never holds these player’s accountable,it isnt about what the NFL penalties are
If Organizationally there was someone holding these guys to a higher standard, sitting guys, cutting guys
and not drafting guys that have issue’s to begin with.
The Bengals have not reached a point that they are confident enough in there scheme that there
going to be successful no matter who they plug in that hole.
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
so if true, from the reports. IF Rey confirmed he punched a guy because of a disagrement or an arguement
You would kick him off the team for that? don’t you think thats a little drastic?
AMAS
keithp doesn't always like to use his brain
It’s hard to do when you grow up near power lines I suppose. Apparently Keithp is god’s gift to mankind. Never did drugs, never drinks, never been in a fight. He is a perfect angel
Don't tell someone not to judge
and then turn around and call someone a child molester you don’t even know. It’s a bit hypocritical — don’t you think?
"Next season will be better" circa 1990
Child Molester?
WHOA! Isn’t that a bit strong? And over the line?
I dont get paid millions,to represent a franchise and city
My name will not appear on the front pages everytime i throw a punch, get drunk and drive, beat my wife
I wouldnt lose my job either,i’m just saying there has to be something in place,to have guys take responsibility
or play somewhere else
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
Not necessarily kick him off the team
But be some form of discipline,i think we all can agree this team has moved past the point of settling for what we can
get,to holding our standards to that of what looks good for the team, franchise and city
I have no idea what happened, but when you have multiple run in’s with the law in a short time frame, that in itself
shows lack of self discipline if anything at all.
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
its really hard to say, i don't know what its like to go every where and people know who I am
im sure most people are considerate and respectful, but there are those people that will try you.
I get he is supposed to represent the organization or what not, but I mean if the guy that came up Rey was out of control, I can understand why he would hit someone. I think if the guy was egging him on, Im all for Rey punching him. People just need to respect their boundries and not try people because they are famous or they have money.
AMAS
I can understand that also
Its hard to believe a guy would go after Rey,unless he was looking for some cash out of the deal in the end
Rey’s the type of guy you dont want to see in a bar fight!
"A team is more than a group of individuals, its a group of individuals that come together to make a team"
lol you would think
but people can be very dumb at times, because they know the player will hold back as much as they can. Every one has a breaking point.
AMAS
That's what I think happened
I can see that dude talking smack acting like a bad ass in front of some chics or his buddies thinking Rey wouldn’t do anything. Then Rey knocks him out lmao!

Extremely disappointing
Wouldn’t be surprised if no charges are filed, though, seeing as Luxe will likely want to deflect any publicity that’s potentially negative. My guess is that Luxe’s ownership & Rey’s pocketbook will do what they can to convince the manager not to press charges (assuming some sort of assault actually took place, that is). Still, even if Rey isn’t charged, he needs to find a way to get his shit together fer real.
Maybe the manager was being an asshole?
Some people cannot be reasoned with, but everyone understands a punch in the mouth.
/devil’s advocate’d
Hope everything works out though.
right... i just doubt that the manager didn't provoke anything
or he just simply walked over and asked him to leave and Rey got mad and punched him… just doesn’t add up to me.
unless of coure he was really drunk or the manager isn’t telling the whole story.

apparently, rey drew the shortest straw in the last player's meeting of the 2011 season

So much for being a "changed man."
Even if he wasn’t drunk, he still clearly made some stupid decisions. I thought we got a steal when we drafted him in the second round, now it’s looking like we drafted him at about the right spot, if not a bit early.

draft
There was a reason Rey was taken in the 2nd. round because he is at best a average LB. We need a real stopper in the middle. Our LB. are very weak and have been for years.I know we have some on IR but think about it, how good has Rivers been. I don’t think MOCH was projected to be a starter. If there is a real beast in the draft lets take him, it has to make the defense better
Please, please, please....
Let us await the full facts before we condemn Rey, or any player for that matter. Often times we hear about a player getting in trouble with the law, and then we find out later when the facts come out that the story was over-sensationalized by the media and that there was no substance to the story.
The Pacman incident on the street corner where he was arrested, and later the cops realized that they had the wrong Adam Jones…
Julian Edelman was charged with groping a woman on the dance floor during a halloween party, only later to have the charges dropped…
Marvin Harrison with the gun incident where someone was shot, and nothing has come off of that…
Some times, people see a football player that they recognize and they may try to insinuate something or provoke the player into doing something so that they can either extort money or fame from the incident…we don’t know the facts, we don’t know what transpired or what was said, and as the story says, there may not be charges filed and he may not be guilty…
Before we lock Rey up and throw away the key, let us just wait and see what the facts are and what happens with the police investigation… =)
The point from my end is.......
don’t put yourself in these types of situations and stuff like this won’t even be a possibility. You got a DUI last year, you recently were married and had a child……maybe give it up on the nightclubs for a little while? Plus, when your an athlete people may try to take advantage of you or put you in the spotlight for financial gain……so stay away from those situations altogether.

Nun! Lol
That’s a good one. I’m with you though they don’t need to put themselves in those situations in the first place. They might be young guys wanting to have fun but unfortunately they’re not regular people like us. They do have to live to a higher standard because of envious people are everywhere.
by Bigcatdaddy on Feb 10, 2012 10:31 AM EST via Android app up reply actions
My point exactly.......
it’s not about not leaving the house….it’s about staying out of trouble by making smart decisions. For example, why do all these athletes get busted for so many DUI’s? How do you solve for this perplexing problem with unlimited funds and a cell phone? Answer: You call a cab or a buddy (or if your an NFL player, call someone from the Bengals. I have heard on here they have people who will come get you.) Simple problem with an even easier solution.

The Manager of the bar looks like a child molestor
I would have punched that douchebag in the face too. Funny how people are always punching people unprovoked. It’s also funny that whenever someone gets embarrassed by getting punch they instantly try to file a lawsuit against you. America is becoming a land of pussies
i agree, minus the america point lol
but there is nothing in the article showing that he was drinking. And the manager didn’t even mention he may have been drunk. So, to say the manage, just walked up there and asked him to leave and he got punched seems a little off to me.
AMAS
I agree. People are liars
and obviously if they started something, they are going to try to make themselves look innocent and place the blame solely on the other person
Doesn't really matter
I don’t know exactly what happened and really don’t care but you just can’t walk up to people and punch them in the face. Drunk, provoked, it doesn’t matter by standards of the law unless its self defense its a no no.
by Bigcatdaddy on Feb 10, 2012 10:35 AM EST via Android app up reply actions
lol from the reports, you would be able to know if it was self defense or not

i just think its weird that the police wasn't there at the time to arrest him if that actually happened
i thought most bars usually have a police man on call or something if the police isn’t already on site.
AMAS
Just depends
I’ve done my far share of partying in Cincy and NKY. I remember security guards mostly and from what I’ve read that’s who defused the situation. As far as the police I can see them not rushing to arrest Rey. It was a bar fight, happens all the time. The guy might have gotten a black eye but it’s his pride that got hurt the most. He’s the one making a big deal out of it I bet. No one likes to be embarrassed especially by getting your ass kicked lol.

well i just have a hard time believing he didn't say or do anything to get punched
