2012 Free Agency: Bush And Benson Among NFL.Com's Top Free Agent Running Backs

Stay connected for news and updates

Steve Wyche, from NFL.com, has put together a position position-by position list of the top free agents available starting on March 13. The only Bengal on that list is running back Cedric Benson. Many do not expect Benson to return, as both sides have had their differences. Raider running back Michael Bush may be in play for the Bengals, as many have suggested.

Wyche suggests that the Browns could be a possibility for Benson if they cannot agree to terms with fellow free agent Peyton Hillis. Wyche also writes that Bush would be a good fit in Cincinnati, especially since they will not be bringing Benson back. Other top running backs available in free agency include Mike Tolbert, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and the previously mentioned Peyton Hillis.

Michael Bush has some hometown ties to the Cincinnati area, as he played at the University of Louisville. This likely has something to do with many writers and fans linking Bush to the Bengals. Cincinnati has options when it comes to how they want to address the running back position. They could upgrade in free agency or upgrade in the draft. The most likely option for the Bengals is to attempt to upgrade the position in free agency and the draft. They could sign Bush and then draft someone like Miami (FL) back Lamar Miller in the second round if available. Virginia Tech's David Wilson and Oregon's LaMichael James would also be possibilities as they have contrasting styles to Michael Bush. While most fans would love for Trent Richardson to be available at pick 17, many draft experts do not have the former Alabama running back getting out of the top five picks.
