The train ride to the 2012 NFL draft has one more major stop to make before the Bengals get ready to go on the clock and that's free agency, which opens tomorrow at 4 p.m. The Bengals' needs are pretty cut and dry and most mock drafts are beginning to blend together. As the Bengals aren't a team known to spend a ton of money in free agency, they'll likely do most of their building in the draft.
In SB Nation's latest mock draft, the Bengals do what they've done in most other mock drafts, which is selecting a cornerback and a guard. The only question is which corner and which guard.
With the No. 17 overall pick, the Bengals take.....
..... South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore.
Hype alert! Gilmore is racing up draft boards after getting talked up by Mel Kiper and some other professional talkers. Of course, Gilmore is very good, and there are questions aboutability to play corner in the NFL.
And then with the No. 21 pick, the Bengals select, according to this mock draft, Georgia guard Cordy Glenn.
The Bengals could lose both guards in free agency this year. Even if they hang on to one, drafting Glenn would be a big help and a great value with this pick. Glenn has the makings of an elite guard prospect and could even slide over to tackle.
The Bengals certainly need a cornerback and guard badly so this mock draft works out for them. Hopefully in the second round, they would be able to pick up a running back or maybe a safety. In the end, free agency will obviously change how the draft plays out, but for now, I gotta say, I'm happy with this mock draft.
