The Cincinnati Bengals are in need for help at cornerback. Reports already have free agent cornerback Aaron Ross visiting the team on Thursday. However the pool of available free agent cornerbacks is dwindling. According to Fox Sports NFL Insider Alex Marvez and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, cornerback Cortland Finnegan has found a home in St. Louis.
#Rams and CB Cortland Finnegan have a deal in place, source tells @FOXSports.com. Story coming ASAP
Rams and free-agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan reached agreement on a five-year deal worth about $50 million.
Though Finnegan is a tough cornerback, his talent would be an overall upgrade for every cornerback on this team, save for Leon Hall. Yet Hall is still recovering from an Achilles injury. And despite an optimistic timeline that he could be ready by training camp, it will be less than a year since Hall's injury.
As for Finnegan going to St. Louis, it shouldn't be that much of a surprise. Head coach Jeff Fisher coached Finnegan for five seasons in Tennessee.
