Is Free Agency Changing our Draft?

Hey Who Dey Nation,

If you are like me, you've been restlessly sleeping these last few nights, thinking of "off-season priorities" like Frostee Rucker and Jonathon Fanene slip away. Even more startling is the fact that we could easily loose Reggie Nelson today to the J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck! The market has been quiet on Sims, but if we lose him, we could have a monstrous holes in the defensive line.

Simultaneously, we are bringing in a few quality guys, such as the New Orleans Saints Tracy Porter, who, in my opinion, could be a solid #2, or #3 CB on this team. His main problem has been injuries as he has never played a full 16 game season in his career. But talent wise, he's a viable option. The other guys look like career backups, and I'm not sure are really worth mentioning.

So my question for you is this, if we sign Tracy Porter, will we drastically change our draft this year? Let me explain.

With Tracy Porter we will have three Corners who can ball. Leon Hall, Nate Clements, and Porter himself. These guys all have some flaws in their game... Hall is coming off a serious injury, Clements is another year old, and Porter, as metioned, has an injury history. So regardless, we still need depth. But at this point, if I'd inexpertly grade them, I'd say they are all C or B players. In other words... serviceable.

The prevailing wisdom is that in this draft is that we are going to go CB, G, RB, or WR (in some order). But with now the surprising lack of depth on the D line, what if a guy like Quinton Coples, Melvin Ingram, or Dontari Poe dropped to us? I would think having guys like Atkins, Dunlap, MJ, and at least one of these three guys drop to us would make up for the flaws in our secondary (again, assuming we could sign a guy like Porter). Even if we lose Nelson, which would make me J-E-T-S barf barf barf... we at least have some young talent waiting in the wings in the likes of Jeromy Nelson (a personal favorite of mine), Taylor Mays, and Robert Sands.

So what do you guys think? If a premier lineman drops to us, and we sign a CB (big if), do you think it would be a good idea to draft a lineman?
