Over the past few weeks, we've been hearing rumblings via Twitter that the Bengals were in discussions with free agent cornerback, Adam Jones. It also was becoming increasingly clear that Jones wanted to remain with the Bengals. According to The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy, both sides have gotten their wish and have come to a contract agreement.
Adam "Pacaman" Jones is remaining with the #bengals. He has agreed to terms.
This is a good signing to provide depth at a position group that sorely needs it. Jones was a serviceable fill-in starter when Leon Hall went down with an injury. He's finally fully healthy from neck and hamstring issues and could become a contributor in 2012. He's also remained relatively out of trouble while in Cincinnati, with only being involved in one legal issue since arriving here in 2010.
It's interesting to see how this signing will affect the Bengals draft plans. Most mock drafts have the Bengals targeting the position with one of their two first round picks. While they're in much better shape at the position than they were just two weeks ago, there's no real dynamic playmakers on the roster as it currently stands. They could still use a high pick to add to the group, making it extremely deep. There's also the possibility of adding Terence Newman down the road, depending on how things play out.
We'll update you with the contract details as we hear them.
