With the seventh overall pick in the 2012 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, AK513 selected for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who earned their pick with a 5-11 record in 2011.
With the No. 7 pick in the 2012 Cincy Jungle Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select....
Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina
The Jacksonville Jaguars are underneath a new regime with new owner Shahid Khan taking the reigns of the franchise. The Jaguars have addressed some major needs via Free Agency bringing back defensive end Jeremy Mincey, cornerback Rasean Mathis; they also signed free agent cornerback Aaron Ross as well as wide receiver Laurent Robinson . This pick came down to wide receiver Malcolm Floyd and defensive end Melvin Ingram.
When it comes down to it, General Manager Eugene Smith is big on position value in the draft. If the draft plays out this way with Claiborne, Couples & Blackmon off the board, No.7 could be too high to take Floyd and the Jags could trade back. Ingram is a versatile athletic pass rusher and is the missing ingredient to the Jags defense which ranked in the top 10 last season. The Jags need a dominant edge rusher to add to their youthful line of Tyson Alualu, Terrence Knighton and Jeremy Mincey. Ingram could easily fill that void.
Melvin Ingram Highlights:
Joe Goodberry's Instant Analysis:
Jags go DE with Melvin Ingram and I personally don't like the fit. If they play him at full-time DE, they wont get the value of the 8th pick from him. He needs to play SLB, DE and DT in nickel situations. If they get creative and move him around, they have a piece to give Offensive Coordinators nightmares.
