Bengals Wide Receiver A.J. Green And His 20th Ranked 2.11 YPRR

Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is a special talent. The first rookie wide receiver voted into the Pro Bowl since Anquan Boldin in 2003, first Bengals rookie to be voted into the all-star game since Cris Collinsworth, Green led all rookies in 2011 with yards receiving (1,057) and receptions (65). Additionally Green broke Collinsworth's record for yards receiving by a rookie, though falling two receptions short of the franchise mark.

So yea, he's a pretty special talent.

By taking the number of routes he ran in 2011 and factoring that by yards receiving, Green generated a yards per route run average of 2.11 (think of it like the quarterback average, which takes yard passing per passing attempt, not completions), ranking 20th in the NFL last year, behind Victor Cruz and his league-leading 3.08 average.

The purpose of this statistical revelation that was proposed by Pro Football Focus, is Green's importance to the offense (targeted as the receiver, his overall production and deep threat) and overall production.

This really isn't all that surprising or even that informative. In truth we haven't had an A.J. Green specific posting in a while. So now is as good a time as any to remember that this team's future is in pretty solid hands. Hey. A pun.

And before we close this file, we should point out that Andre Hawkins generated a 1.99 YPRR which would appear to rank second on the team. At the same time most of Hawkins' playing time was during specific bubble screens or other plays designed specifically for him and not so much as an every-down wide receiver.
