With all the talk about the Bengals maybe getting lucky in having Trent Richardson drop to them at 17 or even the Bengals making a move to trade up and grab him earlier in the first round and everything that has happened to make Micheal Bush such a favorite to land in Cincinnati, I haven't exactly made up my mind on which option would be better for the Bengals NOW and in the Future. Obviously a talent like Trent Richardson doesn't come along too often and I'm sure he will be a great RB in the NFL but who's to say a smaller/shiftier back like Pead and/or LaMicheal James cant become the new Darren Sproles? What RB option do you prefer the Bengals have?
*FYI* I think we all can agree Benson has fumbled his last football in Cincinnati so I'm not even going to give a Benson option. Also you can replace Micheal Bush's name with any of the other FA RB's on the market like Mike Tolbert/Peyton Hillis and still have the same options but I think Bush is the most probable to end up in Cincinnati.
Option A: Grab Bush via FA and draft a RB in later rounds to split carries and give Gruden his committee backfield. Bush, Scott and Pead/James.
Pros: Bengals get their bruising back and an instant upgrade over Benson in both the running and passing attack. The Bengals also draft a young talented RB who can help drive the Cincinnati youth movement and contribute greatly to special teams.
Cons: The Bengals move towards a committee backfield and whole new style of play. (May not be a con to some people)
Option B: Trade up in the draft to obtain Trent Richardson and stick with a 1 man rushing attack with B.Scott coming in every now and again.
Pros: Bengals earn one of the best RB talents to enter the NFL from college.
Cons: Bust potential? And also loss of draft picks from trading up.
Option C: Wait it out during the draft, loss out on Trent Richardson and draft based on "Best Player Available" and ultimately pick up a RB like Doug Martin, Lamar Miller, David Wilson or Chris Polk in the 2nd round or wait until the 3rd to pick up LaMicheal James or Isaiash Pead.
Pros: Be able to draft two maybe three top talents to fill other needs of the Bengals at other positions (OL/CB/S) and still get a great RB to fill the void in the backfield thanks to a deep RB class.
Cons: Always a Bust potential but other than that there is the threat of losing out on the guys Cincinnati and we all want as they sit back and watch. (Doug Martin)
