Another Bengals Mock Draft

It's close enough to the draft that I decided to sit down and come up with my ideal draft scenario for the Bengals come draft weekend. I know everyone has different opinions on this so feel free to tear it apart if I'm way off on something. Just as a side note: I'm not going to mock any potential trades because they are just too difficult to accurately predict. Also this is not a dream draft, but how I realistically think things could turn out, so I don't have any players like Morris Claiborn, Trent Richardson, or even David DeCastro falling to us in the first (although I would be ecstatic if any of those were to be available at 17).

Round 1 a.) Stephon Gilmore CB South Carolina

I wish I could say that we nabbed David DeCastro at this spot, but I just can't see him falling that far (same with Trent Richardson). Gilmore has been flying up draft boards and I think Mel Kiper Jr. has him ranked 13th overall on his big board now so based on that he'd still be a good value here.

Alternative picks I would be content with here: David DeCastro, Luke Keuchly, Michael Floyd, Dre Kirkpatrick

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 1 b.) Cordy Glenn OG Georgia

I see offensive guard and safety as our next biggest needs, but I don't see Mark Barron being available at 21. Part of me wants Dre Kirkpatrick here in addition to Gilmore in the hope that Kirkpatrick's skills could translate to the safety position, but the first round is were you should look for immediate starters, not projects. Glenn might not be as polished as DeCastro, but he could still be a long term starter at right guard.

Alternative picks I would be content with here: Any BPA (mostly the players listed at 17)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 2: Harrison Smith S Notre Dame

I know that a lot of people would like to have Doug Martin here, but I feel we need to finally prioritize the safety position in a draft instead of just continually ignoring it. Mark Barron will likely be over valued in the first round, but getting smith this late in the second would be a steal.

Alternative picks I would be content with here: Doug Martin, Amini Silatolu, Brandon Boykin, Lamar Miller

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 3: A.J. Jenkins WR Illinois

The third round is were I would really like to see the Bengals address the wide receiver position. The only case were I wouldn't mind seeing a wide receiver drafted earlier is if it's a BPA situation. Jenkins is a burner and I think he could really complement Green. His draft stock has been rising as well recently, so if we want him, we would likely need to grab him before the fourth round.

Alternative picks I would be content with here: Brandon Brooks, Marvin Jones, Isaiah Pead, Juron Criner

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 4: Robert Turbin RB Utah State

With Gruden moving to a running back by committee approach the position is immediately devalued in the Bengal's new offense. Therefore, I see the Bengals trying to find a nice compliment to Green-Ellis and Scott in the later rounds instead of reaching for a prospect in the first (provided Trent Richardson doesn't fall to us). I think Turbin has potential comparable to Isaiah Pead and LaMichael James, but he should be availabe in the fourth were Pead and James should go in the third. Additionally he is better built to survive in the AFC North.

Alternative picks I would be content with here: Greg Childs, George Iloka, Antonio Allen, Derek Wolfe

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 5 a.) Chris Rainey RB/KR Florida

He's electric and an instant and upgrade over Brandon Tate. It would be nice to go into the season without wasting a roster spot on a mediocre return man. I'm sure Gruden can find multiple ways to get Rainey touches outside of punt retuns/kick offs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 5 b.) Jarius Wright WR Arkansas

Rainey replacing Tate on the roster opens up an extra spot at wide receiver. Wright provides good competition for that final spot.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 5 c.) Travis Lewis OLB Oklahoma

With the Bengals trading Rivers to the Giants, they need to find some depth at linebacker. It would be nice to take Keenan Robinson here, but I'm not sure he'll be around this late in the round.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 6: Akiem Hicks NT Canada

Any pick in the sixth round is low risk, so I say give hicks a shot to compete for our fourth Defensive Tackle spot. He is a relatively unknown, but intriguing prospect with great potential that could pan out for us.
