Peter King made a few assumptions in this morning's MMQB. One of those included a "what-if" scenario, asking what happens if Trent Richardson falls to the Rams. Would the Rams sitting at 4 million under the salary cap, be willing to carry Steven Jackson and his 7 million per season contract for the next 2 seasons if Richardson ends up in St. Louis? Or would the Rams trade or release Jackson before the start of the 2012 season?
The odds of Richardson falling past the Browns and Buccaneers are slim to begin with. Toss in the Rams willingness to hold onto their star players in the past and this scenario seems even more implausible. Although, we have two weeks left before the draft and this scenario is something new and something we haven't beaten to death yet. Let's consider for a minute the possible scenario on day 1 on the 2012 draft:
The St.Louis Rams draft Trent Richardson. As the Bengals GM, do you pick up the phone and call the Rams to inquire about Steven Jackson? And how much do you offer for a soon to be 29 year old running back on a 2 year deal worth 14 million?
