Alright, I know were tired of incessant speculation, but I felt the need to talk about the possibility of Asante Samuel in stripes. According to this article on NFL.com, the Eagles are shopping Samuel for a 5th or 6th round pick. Even with his outrageous salary ($10 million this year and $11.5 next season) I feel like the Bengals should make an offer, granted that he restructures his deal.
The Eagles have reportedly been willing to chop only $2.5 million off of next years salary, but I think he still needs to restructure more.
Hit the jump for the proposed trade...
Bengals receive: Asante Samuel and 6th rounder (200th overall)
Eagles receive: 5th rounder (from New York - 167th overall) and a 6th rounder (191st overall).
So essentially, we trade a 5th for Asante and swap 6th rounder, thereby dropping back 9 spots. I think this is a very fair deal for both sides, but he has to restructure. I'm not sure what he is worth but I'm thinking $6 million a year with a team option for next year? We need to keep money to extend Dunlap, and Atkins next year and AJ and Dalton the year after that.
Anyways, just my thoughts. Please comment with your thought/suggestions/new trade ideas etc.
