According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs reportedly tore his Achilles while playing basketball. Expected to undergo surgery next week, the injury likely takes him out for the 2012 season. Though there is some dispute on when and how he tore his Achilles, there is no disputing the injury.

Suggs finished the season in 2011 as the league's defensive player of the year, recording 70 tackles, 14 quarterback sacks while forcing seven fumbles and two interceptions.

Baltimore had already lost their other outside linebacker Jarrett Johnson to the San Diego Chargers during free agency, where Paul Kruger is expected to replace him. The Ravens also drafted Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw with their first pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Ravens statement on Suggs: "We are in contact with Terrell. He will see a specialist early next week, and we’ll know more at that time." 8 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry® · Reply · Retweet · Favorite · powered by @socialditto
