Jason Cole wrote a good article about the declining importance of left tackle in the NFL over the last decade. Actually, later in the article, he talks about how it's become increasingly, and perhaps, more important, that you have great interior (guard and center) play because teams are "pushing" up the middle on the pass rushes.
Obviously, the Bengals are finally doing a very nice job to address this.
