Stay connected for news and updates

Former Bengals offensive lineman Mike Ryan was critically injured after being involved in a serious car accident Saturday night, multiple reports are stating. You can see the cars' total destruction here. From the Allentown Morning Call:

Ryan, 23, was driving north in the turn lane of Route 309 and hit a southbound car driven by Gary Boettger, 28, of E. Elm Street, Tamaqua police said.

Police said Ryan crossed the double yellow line while trying to turn left onto Taggartsville Road, hitting Boettger's car after Boettger had turned onto southbound Route 309 from Taggartsville.

Boettger and Ryan were flown by helicopter to hospitals following the 11:45 p.m. collision. Boettger's condition was not available Monday from St. Luke's University Hospital-Fountain Hill. Ryan remained in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

According to the report, charges against Ryan are currently pending further investigation.

Ryan was an undrafted free agent following the 2012 NFL draft. He was later released less than 10 days later due to a "slight knee injury" that he suffered during his March Pro Day.
