With eight yards to go on third down during Cincinnati's opening possession of the game, Andy Dalton's pass went through the hands of Jermaine Gresham, who ran a hitch route several yards short of the first down with 12:21 remaining in the first quarter.

As the players left for the sidelines, offensive guard Travelle Wharton wreathed in obvious pain clutching his right leg. As the training staff worked on his leg, the cart arrived to take the starting left guard off the field. Per the Bengals website, Clint Boling is Wharton's replacement.

According to Bengals.com, Wharton suffered a knee injury and will not return.

Several plays after offensive guard Travelle Wharton was carted off the field with what could be a right leg or knee injury, Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga made a tackle on the Jets first offensive play during their second possession. Maualuga took a helmet to the knee and was helped off the field with arms wrapped around the shoulders of two trainers flanking both sides.

Both offenses have exchanged three-and-out possessions.
