+ Andrew Fox Miller updates his position battles heading into the second preseason game of the year against Atlanta.

+ Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick's rehabilitation is going well.

"The training staff is doing a great job with managing my injury and watching the things that I do to make sure I don’t further injure it," he said. "Me and Nick, we get out there every day. We go hard on the back field and we pretty much just do a lot of cone drills. Then I work with Chip (Morton, Bengals strength and conditioning coach) and do a couple of sprints just to get my wind back up for whenever they say I’m free to get back out."

+ We did a video review of Kevin Zeitler's first half.

+ Linebacker Rey Maualuga is expecting to return for the third preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Otherwise known as the dress rehearsal.

+ Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden remarked that Jordan Shipley simply isn't there yet. That shouldn't be entirely too surprising. He tore an ACL less than a year ago and he's still recovering, gaining confidence each time he puts stress on that knee. However it's also no excuse debating whether he's a lock for a spot on the 53-man roster. If he's not ready by week one with Andrew Hawkins breathing down his neck, Shipley very well could be the odd man out.

+ The Bengals rank No. 11 in this week's preseason power rankings by NFL.com.

+ Offensive guard Travelle Wharton is determined to return stronger next year, rehabilitating like a young 20-year old.

+ If you want a chuckle, then it's time to check out the GIF tournament.

+ Watching the second episode of Hard Knocks you probably waited around for the meeting between Chad Johnson and head coach Joe Philbin. Why wouldn't you? This is ratings gold, HBO would think if ratings (and not subscriptions) ruled.

Yet the best part I thought was my personal introduction to offensive line coach Jim Turner. During a film session with his offensive linemen midway through the episode, Turner left the room with video of Dolphins cheerleaders singing Call Me Maybe playing. When he returned he grabbed a marker and drew pictures representing frowns on the faces of his players before leaving the room. With the palm of his hand, he wiped out the frowns with smiley faces and noted that the desks were six inches higher. Classic.
