#2 WR

Ok, I know it's a hot button topic but let's talk about the #2 WR position. Here are the main guys competing for the spot.

Arman Binns is 22 years old, he will make $390,000 & $480,000 in 2012 and 2013.
Brandon Tate is 24 years old, he will make $480,000 & $555,000 in 2012 and 2013.
Marvin Jones is 22 years old, he will make 2.2 million over the next 4 years.
Mohamed Sanu is 23 years old, he will make 2.7 million over the next 4 years.

* I've included age and salary just to point out that they are all around the same age (22-24) and they all make similiar money (roughly 400K-700K a year), therefore age and/or salary appears NOT to be a factor in this decision.

I love Marvin Jones and it's obvious he is already a fan favorite. Having said that, by reading most of the comments on this board it would appear that he has vastly outperformed everyone else in this competition. Too be perfectly honest that’s been a little bit exagerated, and although he has equited himself very nicely he is by no means running away from the competition.

I’ve made a concious effort to pay really close attention to the #2 WR battle in every game and as I see it not much has really changed during this preseason to move the meter one way or another for any of these guys.

Including last night, so far this preseason Marvin Jones has managed a total of 5 receptions against 2nd and 3rd teamers this preseason. Brandon Tate has managed a total 5 recetions against first teamers this preseason. Arman Binns has managed a total of 3 receptions against first teamers this preseason, however he has also had 1 called back on a penalty and then he made a miraculous catch on another one that may have been challenged in the regular season, which would have given him a total of 5 catches this preseason as well (and before you rip me, YES because it’s the preseason those catches do actually get taken into consideration because the preseason is all about evaluating a players performance not the actual stats), Mohamed Sanu has a total a 4 receptions and those are moslty against 2nd and 3rd teamers.

Marvin Jones has by far the 2 longest catches, which is a very good sign and obviously gives him the most yards. Brandon Tate appears to have had the most clutch catches (catches for first downs). Arman Binns appears to have the two most impressive catches, although again the one last week did not count. Mohammed Sanu is still the furthest behind imo, but he's started to really pick it up in recent weeks and he also has the advanage of having the most invested in him (3rd round pick).

Here's how I see it playing out.

We just played the Packers and I could honestly see our WR rotation looking a little bit like theres in terms of using 5 or 6 guys (we may even use more than they do) on a regular basis. They have Greg Jenning, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, and Randall Cobb all contributing regularly and I could see us doing the same thing with AJ Green, Arman Binns, Brandon Tate, Marvin Jones, Mohamed Sanu, and Andrew Hawkins.

The bottom-line is that when people start to take off there fan hats, they will see that not much has really changed in the battle for the #2 WR position, it's still a wide open competiton and all these guys are probabally going to get a chance to contribute in one or another during the regualr season.
