Bengals Banter: Madden 13 Impressions And My Wide Receiver Lineup

It was angelic harps when Madden 13 slide through the harmonic CD slot into the world's greatest invention and for a moment, my soul was monetarily disconnected from the world (until I realized my phone was still in the kitchen and I nearly sprained an ankle running into a panic). A couple of notes: It's actually fun to play linebacker again. Hated the Madden 12 version -- spent most of the time dosey doe'ing around the ball carrier. Now it's easier to fill gaps and not latch onto a blocker like a huge magnet. Also if you fill a gap and fall to the ground, the ball carrier can trip over you. It's neat to see the ball carrier stumble and either be tackled by another player or recover for a handful of yards. However hate the automatic preseason lineup changes; would rather make them myself. Seriously. When do they swap kickers in the NFL? It wasn't until too late when Mike Nugent crushed a 15-yard punt to midfield; and it wasn't close to being blocked. And yea. I actually had to look up how to start a franchise.

Also my lineup won't look the same as the Cincinnati Bengals. For example Jordan Shipley, staying on my team, will play the slot and opposite of A.J. Green is Mohamed Sanu. Marvin Jones, Andrew Hawkins and Brandon Tate round out my wide receiver roster with Jones being the first off the bench. Dumped Cedric Peerman in favor of Dan Herron -- he broke a good amount of tackles over Peerman. Tight end, quarterback and offensive line look relatively the same.

How does your Madden lineup compare?

+ Dre Kirkpatrick won't play against the Indianapolis Colts this Thursday, but he didn't reinjure his knee either. Seems more precautionary than anything.

+ The Cincinnati Bengals are still waiting on the severity of Kyle Cook's injury. In the meantime head coach Marvin Lewis opens the idea of trading for someone to fill the position.

+ I finally broke down and argued that there is no No. 2 wide receiver competition. Rather I'm not exactly sure what they're planning to do over there -- but hey, I'll throw my bag in the "trust them" side for now.

+ Head coach Marvin Lewis provided a more optimistic injury update for Carlos Dunlap (not that anyone is buying it).

+ We named Trevor Robinson in our projected 53-man roster.

+ We took a rough draft stab at the practice squad.

+ Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer joined the crew at SiruisXM Radio.

+ In honor of Madden 13 being released on Tuesday, NFL rookies tried guessing their Madden grades.

+ AFC North: Offensive guard David DeCastro isn't being placed on Injured Reserve (yet) and Mike Nugent finally signed his one-year restricted free agent tender.

+ A couple of PFF impressions on Devon Still and Cincinnati's recent loss to the Green Bay Packers.
