UPDATE: Bengals wide receiver reportedly made the 53-man roster. He would be the seventh receiver based on our initial projection of listed below. We suspect the move is the first with a trade following at some point this weekend or early next week.
While contacting and checking with his sources, Joe Reedy with the Cincinnati Enquirer tweets that he's hearing that the Bengals are "likely" keeping seven wide receivers on the 53-man roster. A move entirely unexpected, not because of the player we suspect is the seventh, rather having that many receivers on the 53 at one time.
We can assume the roster of wide receivers, if a seventh is added, includes A.J. Green, Armon Binns, Brandon Tate, Andrew Hawkins, Mohamed Sanu, Marvin Jones and Ryan Whalen. Whalen, who didn't post a reception during preseason, posted four catches for 41 yards receiving against the Indianapolis Colts Thursday evening. The only other receiver remaining that could be the seventh is Vidal Hazelton.
It's uncommon for teams to keep seven receivers, especially considering that the sixth receiver is often a gameday inactive. It could also be a move designed for a later transaction, perhaps trading Whalen to another team for low-round picks. That team being Indianapolis?
