We've finally joined the ranks of the media's incessant New York Jets coverage. It's not our fault, though, as the schedule-makers were the ones who pitted the Bengals versus "Gang Green" this preseason. The Jets have some relatively big injury news in that wide receiver Santonio Holmes will not play Friday against Cincinnati in the preseason opener.
According to FOX Sports Ohio and The Associated Press, Holmes will likely be held out of the game because of a rib injury that he sustained from a nasty hit by teammate Antonio Cromartie in the team's scrimmage on Saturday. Coach Rex Ryan says that it isn't fractured, but no timetable of Holmes' return has been set. He is the team's top receiver on the Jets' roster right now since Plaxico Burress' contract expired.
Aside from Holmes' injury, the Jets' second receiver, Jeremy Kerley (a former teammate of Andy Dalton at TCU) has sat out all of camp, so the Bengals could be facing two rookies in Stephen Hill and Jordan White for the majority of the game on Friday night. We'll give you a full injury report later in the week when the official one is released.
