Howard was Mr. everything last year and made Marvin and Zimmer trade away Keith Rivers for a coke and a smile. Personally I did not think that Rivers was that bad, did he live up to his top 10 drafting........no but he played better than Rey M who honestly has no business starting and I "hope" the Bengals can groom Burfict this year and move him in the middle next season. Betting on Burfict is a huge gamble but has the potential of being a home run if he can keep his mind right but I like the idea of having a guy playing linebacker that other players think is a little dirty and might not have his screws too tight. I am sick of watching Rey over run running backs game after game. He was injured last year and I know it's very early this season but Rey M hurts this defense more than he helps right now.
The main reason I put this post up was because I wanted to talk about Taylor Mays and the versatilty he could possibly bring on 3rd down. Taylor Mays loves to hit so why not put him in the best position to allow him to do what he loves. I think that Zimmer needs to move Mays to LB on 3rd down............either the Will or SAM but he would fit better at WLB because he can cover. Jeromy Miles can hold his own at SS and this would still allow Zimmer to put our best 11 on the field. The Panthers made the same move with Thomas Davis and he excelled at LB before he ripped up his knee. Both Davis and Mays are both built the same and are almost carbon copy's of each other. Some think that Howard was our best defender because he could cover like a S and was still very good at stopping the run and leading this defense in tackles. Getting Dunlap healthy and playing will also help the Bengals cover up some of their holes in pass coverage. I think this could work!
