Before I start my rampage let me first say that you will not find a bigger Bengal fan than me. I live and die with each win and loss.
Andy Dalton is no were as good as we Bengal fans think he is. Last year A.J. Green made Dalton's numbers "appear" better than they were by just chucking the ball blindly sometimes and praying to the football gods that Green would beat double teams and come down with it and more times than not he would but DEFENSES are smart and get better every year. Teams are simply not going to let Green dominate. Houston gave the league the blueprint on how to beat the Bengals and so far the Bengals have not made the adjustments.
You really have to be at the game like I was today to see what I am talking about. A.J. Green, 50% of the time is being tripled team and I mean that literally..........tripled team. The offense needs someone ASAP who can beat their man one on one. I love what Hawkins brings to the team he is a match up nightmare but it seems Gruden only uses him on 3rd down. Hawk made a hell of a catch late in the game and his versatility should demand that he have a package of plays that get's used EVERY GAME the way the Saints use Sproles.
So many fans thought that these young WR would be okay for this season but I don't even think Sanu and Jones even have a catch in either games. I like Binns and Tate but this team should have brought in a veteran WR to come in after the draft or in training camp to help relieve the stress on Green, because in games were he does not dominate the Bengals usually lose. Also having a veteran WR would be great for Dalton. It's too late now so the only way the team would sign a vet is if someone get's hurt and I hope like hell that no one else get's put on IR because it's way early and we are losing starters at a rate that is shocking.
This team will only go as far as Dalton takes us and he is way too inconsistent like a mentioned earlier. In the NFL, when you have a window to a open WR, it's not open for long and you simply can't over throw TD because this offense can't make them up. I know that it is early but the entire AFC NORTH has a VERY tough schedule not to mention having to play Baltimore and Pittsburgh. We also need to realize that Gresham will never be an elite TE, he is not a #2 option for this offense. Andy Dalton has to have MORE weapons around him because he simply does not have the skills or arm to carry an offense.
A lot of my fellow fans will not like this but I believe that everything I have just wrote is the truth. I hope like hell that I am absolutely wrong and the Bengals go on a historic SUPER BOWL run and I have made a complete ass of myself.
Finally I really thought that our defense would play better this week but Cleveland just cut through our D like it was nothing. Rey Maualuga makes the DUMB comment that Trent Richardson "doesn't look like much" and Richardson made HISTORY today with his play. On the 32 yard catch and score Rey had him in his sites at about 5 yard line and of course over ran the play again.............AGAIN. I thought that Zimmer would find a way to right the ship this week against a rookie WR but Weeden played a great game. Hopefully things change when Dunlap and Big PAT get back because we really are a diffrent defense with those two playing. Dre Kirkpatrick can also help this team when he returns...............hopefully that would free up Clements to play more S because his days as a starting CB are over.
