I was surprised the team elected to sign Bryce Davis to the practice squad considering we already have a reliable, young and mostly inexpensive long snapper on the team (Clark Harris). Davis was used several times as a TE in the preseason more so than the team has ever done in preseason games. After doing more research on Davis as a TE, he's actually quite athletic. He even compares well to Orson Charles.
Pro Day Results
Davis: 6032-250-4.66, 31 bench, 34 VJ, 906 BJ, 4.35 shuttle
Charles: 6024-251-4.73, 35 bench, 30.5 VJ, 905 BJ, 4.37 shuttle
2011 Stats:
Davis: 44-560-12.7-4td
Charles: 45-574-12.8-5td
Now, the level of college competition is not even on the same level but at least Davis showed he could be productive. And I am by no means saying Davis=Charles, but he's likely a more capable TE than Clark Harris could ever be. I didn't get a chance to focus in on his blocking ability during the preseason but I think this practice squad signing is more than just for a developmental long snapper...
