Stay connected for news and updates

If last week's departure of Roddrick Muckelroy hinted anything, it's that the Cincinnati Bengals feel comfortable enough with Rey Maualuga's rehabilitation that he should be ready for the first game of the regular season. For the second consecutive year, Maualuga will join Manny Lawson and Thomas Howard as the team's starting linebackers.

Vontaze Burfict will be ready in a pinch if Maualuga's knee sprain resurfaces, with Dan Skuta and Vincent Rey backing up Lawson and Howard respectively. All three back ups figure as heavy special teams contributors.

+ A couple of transactions on Tuesday. The Bengals placed Kyle Cook on the Injured Reserve/Recall List, allowing the team to bring him back later in the season. They signed tight end Richard Quinn while releasing long snapper Bryce Davis.

+ The Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly $15.2 million under the salary cap.

+ Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had nice words

+ The Baltimore Ravens nearly released Bryant McKinnie due to a contract dispute, hoping to reduce a signficant portion of his salary. It was eventually resolved.

+ ESPN preseason projections are hatin' on the Bengals while Power Rankings have Cincinnati roughly in the middle of the road.

+ The Bengals hosted former 49ers defensive back Anthony Mosley for a workout.
