Bengals Hue Jackson Denied For Offensive Coordinator Job In Carolina

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Bengals assistant coach Hue Jackson was one of three finalists to become Carolina's newest offensive coordinator. They promoted quarterbacks coach Mike Shula instead.

Marvin Lewis remains the Cincinnati Bengals head coach. Jay Gruden will give it another go as the offensive coordinator and Mike Zimmer propagates a Bengals-nation sigh of relief, returning to Cincinnati for a sixth season as the team's defensive coordinator. Nothing is changing, which promotes coaching continuity.

Weeks had passed with updates and news that could upset the continuity with Gruden interviewing with four teams and minor references to Zimmer.

The lingering issues with the team's coaching staff rests with assistant coach Hue Jackson, who interviewed with the Carolina Panthers earlier this week. He left enough of an impression because according to Charlotte.com, at one point Jackson was one of three finalists for the vacant offensive coordinator job vacated by Rob Chudzinski, who departed to become the head coach with the Cleveland Browns. Jackson, who signed with Cincinnati after his termination as the head coach in Oakland, has spent four years in the NFL as a play caller in Washington (2003), Atlanta (2007) and Oakland (2010, '11).

Later on Friday it was announced that quarterbacks coach Mike Shula was be promoted as the offensive coordinator, according to Charlotte.com

The Panthers have promoted quarterbacks coach Mike Shula to offensive coordinator, a source with knowledge of the situation said Friday.

From our understanding Jackson isn't signed with the Bengals, though the most logical conclusion is that he'll come back if he can't find another home soon.
