Dirk Koetter Signs Two-Year Extension To Stay With The Atlanta Falcons

Phil Sears-USA TODAY Sports

One of the available head coaching candidates has been taken off the market after signing a two-year extension to stick in Atlanta.

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter was one of the hot assistant coaches receiving various looks as a possible head coaching candidate among several of the teams currently with a vacancy.

Not anymore.

According to Alex Marvez with FoxSports.com, Koetter signed a two-year extension to stay with Atlanta.

A source told FOXSports.com the Atlanta Falcons have signed offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to a contract extension that will keep him off the market until the 2014 offseason.

Koetter made the decision after meeting Tuesday with Kansas City Chiefs management about the chance to replace the fired Romeo Crennel. The Chiefs also interviewed special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, a source told FOXSports.com.

Koetter was set to interview with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns. By sticking with the Falcons, the overall number of candidates is lowered for open head coaching positions.
