Andre Smith could be in trouble with the law. May face league discipline, though a first offense could limit the impact. He may have even hurt his market value, but we're not convinced. A reasonable explanation may exist for Smith, busted for having a handgun in his belongings last week at the Hartsfield International Airport, but we're convinced that a slap-on-the-wrist could be the extent of things.

Joe Reedy with the Cincinnati Enquirer captured Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis' reaction after being asked about Smith while scouting Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Alabama on Wednesday.

"He's a smart guy that got involved in a dumb situation that caused him an embarrassment for a moment."

Without knowing the specifics, it's hard to disagree.

Smith is due back in court on Feb. 4 for a preliminary hearing in Atlanta.
