OK, so reading thru the last week or two of posts, and comparing that to what the so-called internet draft experts (cbssports, walterfootball, etc..., etc...) the Bengals’ first round pick seems to be likely one of these positions.
Please select which position you want the Bengals to draft with the 21st overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft.
I’ve listed some of the most common names associated with the positions. If a guy is regularly going in the top 5 or 10, then I didn’t list him, because he likely isn’t going to be there at #21 so it’s unrealistic to consider him at that spot.
Oh, I’m assuming we sign or franchise both Andre Smith & Michael Johnson.
Feel free to assume otherwise in your voting decision...
DEFENSIVE END
Bjoern Warner (Fla St) – Will likely be gone by #21
Sam Montgomery (LSU) – Seen him mocked to Cincy several places
Ezekiel Ansah (BYU) – Very raw prospect with very high upside. Maybe another Michael Johnson?
Dion Jordan (ORE) – At 240 lbs may be more of a 4-3 OLB, or only a situational guy at DE?
LINEBACKER
Alec Ogletree (UGA) – The replacement for Maualuga?
Manti T’eo (ND) – After the championship game, he is more like ‘whiff’ Maualuga than a game-changing MLB. But maybe he’s worth all the hardware he earned?
Barkevious Mingo (LSU) – More of a 3-4 OLB, but may be viewed as the best available. Wasn’t Lawson also a 3-4 OLB at one time too?
SAFETY
Kenny Vaccaro (TEX) – Strong Safety
Matt Elam (FLA) – Another Gator to patrol our secondary with Reggie Nelson
Eric Reid (UCLA) – Good tackler & athlete. Maybe inconsistent?
Xavier Rhodes (Fla St) – A Corner, but maybe the #2 CB > than the #1 Safety? Could always move a CB to Safety.
CENTER
Barrett Jones (ALA) – We missed on a stud Center, Alex Mack a few years ago. Do we let another one get away?
Chance Warmack (ALA) – I know, he’s a guard. But if you view him as an elite talent who fell to you, keep him at Guard and throw Boling in the middle?
Jonathan Cooper (UNC) – The #2 Guard / Center, after the Bama boys.
RUNNING BACK / WIDE RECEIVER
Giovani Bernard (UNC) – He seems to be the top RB going in the draft, usually 30~40 range. Maybe #21 is too high?
Keenan Allen (CAL) – The better half of the 2011 tandem at Cal with Marvin Jones. But with M Jones & M Sanu emerging, do we need to pass on other positions to throw another WR into that mix?
It’s also important to keep in mind that we have a high 2nd round pick. So if you think one of these guys, like a good RB or DE or such will fall to high round 2, then it would make sense to go with a different position at #21 – a position where there will be a drop off between what you can get at #21 and #37.
