Hello Bengals fans.
Earlier this week we had a lively discussion regarding the Bengals on GGN, during which many of you were extremely positive about your team. I expressed the opinion that the discussion was taking a rather homerish turn. Well, as the great heavyweight boxer Muhammad Ali said, it ain't braggin' when you can back it up. And boy did you ever back it up. The Jets were, in a word, annihilated in this game. There wasn't a phase of the game where the Jets came out on top, or even came out equal.
One Jets strength in past years has been an outstanding secondary. However, this year, with a Cromartie on one side who appears to have forgotten how to play this game, and a rookie Milliner on the other side who appears never to have known how, the secondary this year is a team weakness that can be exploited if the QB is given time to go deep. And today the Bengals' superior offensive line shut down the Jets vaunted pass rush, giving Dalton all day to light up the Jets' inferior cornerbacks with one deep pass after another. Dalton was for the most part very accurate with his passes, and the Jets cornerbacks were far too often not within 5 yards of the guy they were purportedly covering, and the result was beautiful for Bengals fans and disastrously ugly for Jets fans. On the other side of the ball the Bengals secondary did a very nice job covering the Jets not very good receivers, even without the team's #1 cornerback, and the front 7 manhandled the Jets offensive line. It was an old fashioned ass whupping, there is no better way to put it. This previously somewhat skeptical Jets fan is now convinced that Marvin Jones is indeed a weapon. Of course when a guy puts up 120+ yards and 4 TDs on your team, it would feel a little silly to deny it.
At any event, I just wanted to stop by and congratulate you and your team. It was a very impressive performance. The Bengals do indeed have a deep and talented roster. Assuming reasonably good health, it looks to this Jets fan like your team is a legitimate Super Bowl contender, up there with Denver and Kansas City in the AFC.
I also wanted to say that I mostly enjoyed this week's conversation, even if it did get a bit heated at times. To anyone I may have offended, you have my sincere apologies. Life is too short and football is not nearly important enough to create enemies over a game. We may have widely differing opinions at times, but we are all football fans united in fanatical support for our respective laundry. Good luck to the Bengals the rest of the way. Looks like you may not need all that much luck though. That is one very good team.
