Dre Kirkpatrick's combine vs. the top 2012 DB's

For those of you who forgot who Dre Kirkpatrick is already, he was our top pick in last year's draft (taken ahead of Cincy Jungle favorites like David DeCastro & Doug Martin).

Anyway, looking at last year's top rated cornerbacks, here is how they fared at the combine.

(The 3-cone result for Dre comes from his pro-day, since he did not do the drill at the combine)

name 40 225 rep vert broad 3-cone shuttle
M Claiborne CB 4.50 - 34.5 118 7.01 4.12
S Gilmore CB 4.38 15 36.0 123 6.61 3.94
D Kirkpatrick CB 4.50 - 35.0 120 7.20 -
J Jenkins CB 4.41 - 33.5 121 6.95 4.13

For comparison's sake, here is how the top 2013 cornerbacks performed:

name 40 225 rep vert broad 3-cone shuttle
D Milliner CB 4.37 - 36.0 122 6.95 4.32
D Trufant CB 4.38 16 37.5 125 - 3.85
X Rhodes CB 4.43 14 40.5 132 - -
D Amerson CB 4.44 15 35.5 127 - -
J Poyer CB 4.54 8 30.5 118 6.87 4.18
J Banks CB 4.61 10 34.0 125 6.97 4.27

Since the Bengals are seemingly in need of a safety, and there have been some who have suggested moving Dre to safety, here's how the 2013 safeties fared:

name 40 225 rep vert broad 3-cone shuttle
T Mathieu S 4.50 4 34.0 117 6.87 4.14
E Reid S 4.53 17 40.5 134 6.99 4.22
M Elam S 4.54 17 35.5 118 - -
TJ McDonald S 4.59 19 40.0 131 6.89 4.20
K Vaccaro S 4.63 15 38.0 121 6.78 4.06
DJ Swearinger S 4.67 17 37.0 124 6.70 4.11
B Rambo S - 17 - - - -
J Cyprien S - - 38.5 - - -

Dre's 40 time would put him near the bottom of the top CB's for 2013, but ahead of the top Safeties.

His 3-cone would put him on par with the faster o-linemen. Just kidding, but it's far worse than anybody on this list.

Dre's vertical jump & broad jump would put him in the lower half of the top prospects from 2013.

Since Dre missed all of 2012, he's essentially joining the Bengals as a 'rookie' in 2013. So with that in mind, would you still take him with a 1st round pick if he was coming out this year???
