2013 NFL Free Agency: Cleveland Browns Sign LB Quentin Groves

After making a big splash yesterday, the Cleveland Browns kept at it early this morning by signing former Cardinals linebacker Quentin Groves to a two-year deal. Groves, who contributed 46 tackles and four sacks while starting seven games last season, is expected to add depth to the outside LB position for the Browns, as they make the switch to a 3-4 defensive scheme under new DC Ray Horton.

Horton, funnily enough, was the defensive coordinator for the Cardinals in 2012. His familiarity with Groves is likely why the Browns opted to pull the trigger and get a deal done sooner rather than later, as the Cardinals were also rumored to be in the market to retain Groves services.

With Groves in fold, that brings the free agent count up to three for the Browns. Yesterday, Cleveland landed one of the first major punches of the signing period by poaching LB Paul Kruger from the Ravens and then followed it up by signing DT Desmond Bryant away from the Raiders. All three signings have been for players on the defensive side of the ball.

The Browns were rumored to be one of the aggressive teams at the start of free agency, and thus far they have not disappointed.
