2013 NFL Free Agency: Lions Re-Sign CB Chris Houston

As Mike Garafolo predicted, the cornerback market has been notably slow thus far in the new league year. The Detroit Lions, however, just scored one of the first major blows to the market, re-signing CB Chris Houston to a multi-year deal. Houston was widely regarded as one of the better free agent corners available and helps the Lions solidify their pedestrian, 19th-ranked pass defense,

Prior to re-upping with the Lions, the Miami Dolphins were rumored to have interest in the 28-year-old corner. Now they'll have to head back to the drawing board and target a different corner. That shouldn't be a problem, though, as the cornerback market is still full of talent.

Pending the contract details of Houston's deal, his signing might have financial implications for a number of other corners waiting for teams to extend them offers. Two such corners are Adam Jones and Terence Newman, who the Bengals have not yet approached about re-signing. Perhaps the Houston signing will be the falling domino that leads to more and more cornerback deals getting done in the coming week.
