Cincinnati Bengals Re-sign Offensive Tackle Dennis Roland

Not the high-profile signing at offensive tackle that was expected, but Cincinnati assures that they have the depth at tackle.

The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Friday that they've re-signed offensive tackle Dennis Roland, who moonlights as a stone giant during the week. Roland was an unrestricted free agent, completing another one-year deal that he signed during last year's offseason. There's death. Taxes. Roland signing one-year deals during the offseason.

Roland played every game last season, including two starts in jumbo set (with Roland being the third offensive tackle) in an obvious rushing formation. Dating back to 2009 and including the three playoff games, Roland has played 67 of a possible 67 games, joining Cincinnati a year earlier in 2008.

“Dennis is a solid pro who has helped us make the playoffs three of the last four years,” said Paul Alexander, Bengals assistant head coach/offensive line coach. “He’s a known quantity, a guy we have relied on, and we are glad to have him back for 2013.”

Roland is the ninth player that the Bengals have re-signed that entered free agency as an unrestricted free agent.

Initially signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys in 2007, Roland spent his first year in the league on Tampa Bay's practice squad. Eventually he was waived by the Buccaneers during final cuts in 2008, finding his way to Cincinnati's practice squad. He made his NFL debut, replacing an injured Stay Andrews against the Browns on December 21.
