Lechler's contract with Houston proves Bengals overpaid for Huber

Shane Lechler perennial All-Pro punter signed a 3-year deal worth $5.5 million, with the Houston Texans

He's made seven Pro Bowls and had at least one punt of 50 yards or more in 33 consecutive games from 2003-05, the longest streak by any punter since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970.

He also has two of the top four punting average seasons in NFL history - 51.1 yards in 2009 and 50.8 yards in 2011.

The Bengals recently signed Kevin Huber to a 5-year deal worth $14 million.

Last year was Huber's best year ever, with 46.6 yards per punt. Of active punters, he's number 22 in yards per punt career average. Lechler is number two.

So here's where you see a smart team (Houston Texans) preparing for another serious run at a Super Bowl, versus Mike Brown's "bring back our own even if they're not particularly outstanding" approach...

I think Ed Reed has some gas in the tank. That's two Pro Bowlers in two days for the Texans...
