Bengals Dynasty Brewing?

Bengals Dynasty Brewing?

So here's what I'm thinking, I know that most of the real Bengals fans just chuckled and thought that we should take it one step at a time. However I am a fan of big picture thinking, and this would the biggest picture thought known to man. The Bungles of the 90's into a dynasty just 10 years later! I'm comparing the 2005 team to the 2012 team in 4 different categories to see how they stack up.

You can make your own a decision about which roster is better, but through my scope it's no question. The Bengals came out 10-1-5. (2012-2005-Even.) So we can say that the talent is the best that it has been in twenty years, that sounds pretty dynasty like to me!

I know that Bob Bratkowski is not an overall better Coordinator then Gruden, and I'm not a Gruden hater, I just think that in 2005 Bratkowski was better than Gruden now. That's all.

Production

The Bengals offense was 12th in NFL this year and 4th in 2005. I think that the Bengals offense was the best in the NFL in 2005. In 2005 Rudi Johnson ran for 1,458 yards and Carson Palmer threw for 3,836 yards. In 2012, the Bengals were not as threatening with Benjarvis Green-Ellis going for 1,098 yards and Andy Dalton throwing for 3,669.

Advantage: 2005 Bengals.

The Bengals defense was 7th in 2012 and 3rd in 2005. These numbers obviously show the 2005 Bengals with the better defense but I'm not so sure. In 2005 we were 4th in pass defense and 2nd in run defense. In 2012 we were 7th in pass defense and 4th in run defense. However, the Bengals defensive collapse at the end of the 2005 season makes me want to call the two defenses even…but I won't.

Advantage: 2005 Bengals.

Big Picture

So now the 2005 Bengals have won a category and the 2012 Bengals have won two categories. It all comes down to my final category, Big Picture Thinking. I am going to evaluate which team had better control over what they were doing. 2005's team would've, in my opinion, probably won the Super Bowl that year if it weren't for the incident. But their management still doesn't beat that of the Bengals today. I think that are approach to Free Agency is something we haven't had in a long time. I feel like Mike Brown has figured out how toe the line of being too conservative and wasting it, and trust me we've seen both. I also think that people are making a big deal about Free Agency this year. The way I see it, Free Agency is just the eyes of the Mona Lisa. The whole painting is our Lombardi Trophy. Besides in the last 3 years we have signed many valuable Free Agents such as Nate Clements, Wallace Gilberry, Thomas Howard, Terrence Newman and Manny Lawson. I think that we have something now that we haven't had in a long time… a plan. We finally have a road map on Marvin Lewis's desk, a Super Bowl GPS. And it's actually kind of cool.

Rap Up

So in the end I would say that a dynasty brewing is even too optimistic for me. But would love to hear a radio announcer say

"18 seconds left on the clock, the score 21 to 27. The Bengals are in the two minute drill. Andy takes the snap, steps back, he has an open man, its A.J., and he's got it and he's gone! Now he's running out the clock the Bengals are Super Bowl Champions!"

Lord knows we have gone through enough name calling (the Bungles), Humiliation (Marshall Faulk saying we wouldn't win because "they're the Bengals") and Slogan Stealing (the Saints creating "who dat" after the Bengals popular "who dey." And the 49ers adding "Nooooooobody!" to the end of their slogan, also a Bengals thing.) that we deserve what is tastes like to lift the Lombardy… several times.
